Looking for a 3rd Gen

Hey everyone,

Im new to the forums, and have been looking for a 4runner for the last couple months. I am 15 and I get my license in less then a month. I finally came across one, and would appreciate your opinion on wether or not I should purchase the vehicle.

2000 Toyota 4runner Sr5 Owner is asking $7,000
Second Owner
320,000 km (202,000) miles
3.4L 4x4
All mods 2 years old:
Old Man Emu 3" HD Suspension
883 front coils, 890 rear coils, as well as a diff drop
2 sets of rims on tires, Stock rims on winter tires, aftermarket wheels on all season (brand new tires) 35''

I contacted the toyota dealership and they told me that this 4runner is almost due for a new timing belt, water pump, differential fluid and transmission fluid. I was hoping to use this, as well as the high mileage to drive the price down.

Im also wondering if you guys see any major problems occurring down the road. I know that due to the mileage the vehicle will need work to stay running but I dont know if I want to be putting large amounts of money into the vehicle.

He sent me a Carfax report showing that the history of the vehicle is clean, except for one accident 10 years ago.

Did you say 35" in tires? The owner has a lot into this vehicle if you have a full set of 35" plus summer set of tires plus OME lift. That stuff would be about $2000 to me so that leaves you paying the equivalent of $5000 for a vehicle without any mods and 200k. That sounds fair. Check for rust, look through tranny fluid and radiator to check for pink milkshake remnants. Also, you might need to get a body lift to better clear those 35" if you go on anything but pavement. Finally, it will feel underpowered if it hasn't been regeared.

Thanks for the feedback. It does have a 3inch lift, but it has not been re-geared. The body is incredible shape. If I gave him an offer on the weekend, what price should I shoot for?

I spent days going through this thread before purchasing mine. That one you posted looks amazing and I'd probably purchase if all checked out.

If you're in Canada (and I am guessing you are with the metric reference), I would look very, very carefully at the frame for rust. These frames were not well rust proofed from the factory. 200,000 miles on Canadian roads could be very bad.

Also, how serious was the wreck a decade ago?

Looks pretty good otherwise. The missing SR5 badge is a bit weird, but maybe that is intentional. The services you listed will run around $1,000 at a dealership in the U.S. A specialist shop will be cheaper, but still easily $500-600.
