I been looking really hard at getting a 2010 4runner, most likely a Sr5 4x4 or limited (if I can find a really smokin deal). After reading some forum post and reviews I was wondering if the 5th gen is a step back for the 4runner? The engine is looks alot better but I have hear complaints about the interior. I will be getting the 3rd row seat option in what ever 4runner I decide to get. Just looking for opinions from 4runner owners who have owned both. Thanks

Go get a up close personal look at both and test drive them is the best for YOU to decide since you have to live with whatever you buy.
I got a chance to drive a new TE and I'vew already driven a couple of 4th gens and i wouldn't hesitate to buy a 5th gen but I also lean toward one for off road use and right off the showroom floor the TE is hard to beat.

The 5th gen is in no way a step back. The heater controls are much more user friendly and I prefer the stick shift for 4x4 instead of the knob.(comparing TE vs SE) The head room in the 2010 is MUCH greater than the previous gen. If you are a tall person who wears a hat, stay away from the 4th gen. I do prefer the position of the "lighted" cup holders and window controls in the 4th gen but like the rear window control position in the 5th. Another drawback for the 2010 is a cartridge type oil filter and 6+ quart capacity, appears to be a pain to change oil and I'll prolly just take it to the dealer. These are just my opinions, go to your local dealer and hop in one of each. Yea with a decent set of tires the TE is a very capable 4x4 out of the box.
