Time for a new truck! V8 4th gen vs 5th gen vs Tundra

My 04 v6 sport will be going off to an insurance auction soon and im looking for a replacement

Current contenders are a v8 4th gen, 5th gen or a Tundra for the towing and bed capabilities. Looking for some input on each one. I would have thought this would be an easy choice but apparently its not!

I know this is a 4runner forum so feel free to blast me on even considering a Tundra vs a 4runner! Haha

For the v8 id be going 06-09, for the 5th gen 10-15 and for the Tundra probably anything 08-15.

I will also have some parts/accessories for sale soon from my 04. Wheels off a 5th gen with Cooper at3 with around 80% tread, husky floor liners, almost new led tailights oem from the 06-09 4runner, oem manifolds with under 2k miles on them, carvan dump exhaust. Set of power steering lines brand new.

First and foremost, make sure you crawl under anything you look at, and poke around. The frame rust is a problem. I have a 200k mile 4th gen V8 and a 160k mile 5th gen. Both are heavily modified and get shit for mileage, so I can't give any input there.

I've driven the 5th gen all over the country without issue. V8 was driven from Florida to AZ back in 24'. Wheeled it pretty hard all over the desert when I got there, and drove back to Florida without issue. With good tires and a fresh oil change, I would drive either of these trucks across the country tomorrow.

Don't overlook a clean low mileage 3.4 T100 either. I bought a 2wd extra cab w 240k miles last year and have put on 6k miles since then. Keeps running better the more I drive it.

One thing I fear is all of these trucks out living their parts availability. Which would really suck because I'm definitely not a fan of anything newer than a 2022 either. For now, QC has left the chat imo.

I love my '18 T4R SR5, my first T4R. Previous I've owned but two other Toyota vehicles, a '02 Tacoma TRD Off Road and a '03 Camry. I off roaded the Tacoma greatly, not so much with the T4R. I'm getting old.

I'm not a fan of the Tundra, though I did like the 1st generation. Though hard to find a clean, low miles unit, I'd jump at a low mileage V6 4WD cab and a half version.

I love my 4runner and I hate to let it go but given all the frame work it needs this is the best thing that could have happened I guess. The damn rust is horrible so definitely looking for my next ride down south where it shouldn't be an issue.

I am 98% sure im going for a Tundra simply so I can pull more weight.

I agree not a fan of newer stuff for many reasons. Ill stick my my 08 prius and right now been shopping 08-16 Tundras.

I was never a fan of the Tundra but that was mainly when I worked for toyota and working on them was a pain when it was multiple times a day! It will still be a pin but id like to be able to tow more. MPGs will suck but thats what the prius is for lol

Looking at 08-16 crewmax since gotta fit the 3 kids in with minimal whining.
