Loose Trim

I noticed this part of the plastic trim (circled) on the rear passenger side door is loose. I can pull it away from the door.

Is there anyway of reattaching it? I was thinking of 3M exterior mounting tape unless you guys have a better way.

You probably have a broken clip! I would take it off and get new ones.

It's a snap in piece.
You may have to pull the inner door panel for access.

Yup, my trim flaps. it came loose a while back. I actually saved the little broken clip that fell out of the door the day it happened.

I just said the heck with it, but now I am curious.

3M VHB tape would probably work just as well.

I pulled out the the top corner of the cladding and saw the broken clip which is pushed into the body. I figure I have to pry that out and install a new one. A half-hearted attempt to pry it out didn't work, but I was in a hurry. I sure don't want to have to remove the whole damn piece of cladding and possible break a few more. I want to try to replace just the one.

But I may just use the 3M tape.

It was too late in the day to go to the Toyota dealer that is thirty miles away.

These panels require a combination of two different clips. They are orange and blue. The locations are specific and if you try and remove the trim you will break more clips. Sometimes the trim piece breaks too. Just the little place that the clips attach too. I have some part numbers a pictures on my computer if needed.

I would think it best to replace all the clips since as they're of the same vintage, they'll be brittle and probably break when you pull the trim off.

Part numbers would be great! The clip is orange that is broken.

I would like to try and replace just the one clip. I think I can pry the trim our far enough to accomplish that.

The bottom of that trim edge is held by rivet. If you can push that part of trim in past the aligned edge with next panel - then your molded part of trim spacer is broken off (usually per body shop while removing and not realizing to drill out the rivet). I've that issue and the only fix for that is replacing whole trim $332 prep and paint $160 or more. For that much trouble I might give above suggested 3M super strong automotive double sided tape a try
