My new gas pedal

While at least one, and perhaps only one, seems to understand my accelerator pedal issues, they're a big deal to me. The pedal is almost parallel to the floor, meaning my ankle has to bend further than it likes to in order to use more than a feathering on the pedal. Now I'm not a leadfoot, but I don't mind excercising things a bit at times too, especially say on hills? But the pedal didn't want my ankle to do that, similar to a Prius loaner I had years ago. Anyway, not one who likes to hear no, I made a mod, as follows.

I used Lexan/Polycarbonate for the plastic part. A bit of steel I had for the angle brace, probably should have used more plastic, but it seemed easier at the time. Bent things, screwed things, drilled a couple of small holes in the pedal to screw my contraption down. Used 3M VHB tape to attach the pedal pad to the new pedal base.

Things might loosen up in time, but I doubt it. We'll see. Pedal angle to my foot is immeasurably better, at least statically, I haven't driven it yet. Toyota with it's now near legendary reputation for reliability, seems to me to struggle on ergonomics. They might work, they might not break, but that doesn't mean it's comfortable.

Be sure to do a lot of testing on whether the floor mat will roll up and jam your pedal extension. IIRC, the recall and Mickey Mouse fix was for this reason. I went with Weathertech and they have not given any issue with the long pedal. And yes, the long pedal is much more comfortable. (On a side note, WT mat fit is not good. Husky may be better.)

I had a similar issue with a SR5 Toyota pickup back in the '70s. The pedal was too high up and caused my foot to be at an uncomfortable angle, fortunately the fix was simple on that one, there was a rod going between the pedal and fuel system, whatever it was back then, I cut the rod in half and inserted about 2" of dowel rod between the cut ends and it repositioned the pedal downward, which is what I needed.

You did post it before, thank you. And yes I did take that into account. I would probably remove it before I sold it, but as of now that would not appear to be in the near future.

What I assume is the factory mat has hooks that locate it pretty well, I have wondered if part of the recall was a new drivers mat and those hooks? Regardless, I can see how a mat could be an issue with too long a pedal, mine is now slightly longer, but mostly a different angle, much more vertical instead of almost parallel to floor.
