Loud Thump or Bang (5th gen)

Had the Pro wheels installed Friday and had them check the alignment as well. The alignment was off (toed out) so me and the gal headed to Santa Fe to check how she drives now. It was a chore to keep straight when I brought it home. I had to take it to dealer because all the wheels were not balanced from the factory. Not one wheel weight on any of the tires.

Twice we had a loud thump from under the passenger seat but outside, like as life a ran over a fence board and it flew up and hit the bottom of the rig. I pulled over the first time to see if maybe I lost a lug nut or wheel lock but they were all on.

On the way back home on the freeway it happened again, super loud but not vibration like I hit anything and both times I looked in the rear view mirror expecting a cat or lumber to come out from under the rig. I did a google search and don't see anything but crawled under the thing looking for a loose spare tire, broken exhausts hanger or something obvious but don't see anything.

WTH? Anyone have a clue on what the issue might be? I do have KDSS but the sound is coming from under the passenger seat area or maybe where the back seat foot mat is located on the right side.

How would the factory balance wheels without having the tires installed?

Whatever shop installed the tires on the wheels should have balanced them.

Sounds like the wheel weights are flying off and hitting the undercarriage as you're driving.

Check your lower control arm bolts. Should be 130ft/lbs IIRC.

I'm not sure why but it seems as though I didn't explain it correctly.

From the factory the stock wheels and tires were not balanced.

Fast forward, I installed the pro wheels and had alignment checked, it was out so I had it fixed. This was around 300 mikes apart. I took the truck in at 100 miles to have them fix the vibration at freeways speeds and it turned out to be unbalanced factory wheels and tires.
I also noticed the truck didn't track straight so Friday I had the mechanic check alignment. I mentioned these 2 things because my rig left the factory with unbalanced wheels and tires and alignment was off.


2 days ago, I removed stock wheels, and added pros. The truck does not vibrate, it rides greats....except for one thing.

Twice it sounded like I had a huge board slam under the truck.

Wheels weights are not flying off, it doesn't sound like a rock stuck in the treads and later flying off, it sounds like something huge. If I took a rubber mallet and hit the Footwell behind the front passenger as hard as I can, that's close to the sound I heard twice. Not a rock, not a weight weight, it's loud.
This didn't happen on a bump, or dip in the road, straight and level and then the Thor hammer.

Put the orignial tires and wheels back on and see if it still thumps. I'm thinking it may not be the wheels. Maybe the steering rack guide? Exhaust? The timing might be perfect where something else is going on. Try the easy stuff first like swapping wheels back.
