Hey Forum Members. I'm at a loss with this rear end noise on my 4runner. It's been going on for a couple years now and I have not been able to troubleshoot it. The hum produces a low bass note somewhere between 60-150hz (like a sub woofer is playing). Here's what I've done in those two years so far to try to fix it:
-Grease Zerk fittings every 5k or so
-Replaced rear u-joint on rear prop shaft
-replaced wheel bearings in rear (due to axle seal stuff)
-diff oil level normal
-diff oil is new
-Shop says double carden joint is fine.
-Regular tire rotations and balances
Anything else I'm missing that I need to look into? I just changed the diff oil and didn't find any significant shavings of metal, or debris in the fluid, and the splines on the axle shafts looked fine a couple years ago when they were pulled for the axel seal replacement.
