Was there a Limited 4x4 4cyl option in 1997?

I'm guessing he just doesn't know anything about vehicles, and it's actually a 6cyl.

I'm waiting on a check to show up from one of my customers and if that thing is still listed when I get it I'll have a new 4Runner!

Ha, the scam postings up here (Massachusetts) are often pictures of cars in Florida. "Just took that picture today!". *looks outside at 8 inches of snow*. "Ok, no thanks"

to me I dont really care about miles unless it is over maybe 220,000. I would MUCH rather have a clean body and frame and well taken care of vehicle with more miles. But I do not drive more than 10k miles a year, so one with 220k could last me 10 years, and if the motor or tranny go id much rather replace that than fight rust every year, just my opinion though.

Well this also might have the 'driven then parked for months' issues. A vacation car? Used maybe only a few weeks out of the year? The whole dang thing is probably dry-rotted.

And who the hell doesn't know at least how many cylinders their engine has if they are trying to sell their vehicle? Maybe not exact engine size, but seriously?

Attention 4Runner Enthusiasts! How often do you come across a low mileage, late 90's 4Runner with crazy low mileage AND a manual transmission? Just about never at this point. We purchased this 4-Runner in 2011 from Washington state at 26,000 miles, (where it lived a road-salt-free existence for its first 12 years) it now has around 54,300 miles, which is about the lowest mileage you can find anywhere on this older platform. They don't make em like this anymore, and the 3rd pedal makes it that much better. All these old 4-Runners seem to go to 200k miles or more, so this one is just getting started. It starts, runs and drives perfectly. We put a nice set of Michelin tires on it that are in great shape. AC works, only one key fob (and that needs a battery). The radio antenna was snapped off in a car wash, but it is in great shape otherwise both inside and out. This was a 4th car for us and we've moved and no longer have parking space, so sadly it must go.

^^ January 2016 - Purchased my 2000 4Runner SR5, v6, auto. with 80,400 miles (129,600 Km) for ~$7,000 US.
($9,000 Canadian / Exchange Rate 1.30)
- one senior owner, garage kept, limited winter driving & always washed
- Lexus/Toyota dealer replaced timing belt, water pump & radiator at 110,500 Km
- totally rust free, perfect paint & clear coat, no stone chips & zero dents
- dealer friend provided SUV fully safety checked ($2,500 Cdn. in Free repairs) and E-Tested
(front end worn and real axle seals leaking)
- former owner had replaced tires (BridgeStone) 2 months prior to sale
- still have to fix the AC / $1,000 expense
Overall, a great low mileage find, in the Canadian rust belt / that are almost impossible to find, in this condition (up North).

True, but they asked you for help. They didn't just post it 'making things up' like this CL poster and potentially screw themselves out of hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Not with our 4runners specifically, but one can ask for a premium depending on what engine a vehicle has, and a crooked buyer can cash in on it if the seller is not knowledgeable on what they're trying to sell.
Ask for help, like you said, or failing that, at least Google your vehicle.

^^^ absolutely. Was just being a little tongue in cheek. If you're selling privately, you need to know what you're selling. If not,take the hid on a trade in and save yourself from getting screwed AND dealing with hassles.

If it's been garaged in FL, it will be fine. Things don't "dry rot" in 80% humidity. It has almost 70k on it, so it's been used more than a few weeks out of the year. Probably more like 4-5 months every year, and most of the snowbirds have people that look in on their houses and start the vehicles for them.

As for the cylinders, I know TONS of people who have no idea what engine is in their car. Especially the kind of people who can afford a vacation home in Miami and a $30k vehicle to leave there. This is probably someone who's parents bought the place (and truck), then died and left it to the kids. It's not like a 4Runner has badges on it that say 6cyl, or maybe the guy just wasn't paying attention when he created the CL ad.

My uncle's best friend is a surgeon in NYC. Makes $$$ all day long. Has a house on the ICW in Palm Bay and another one in West Palm Beach. They will usually buy new cars in New York, drive them for a couple of years, then if they aren't crap they are usually brought down south to Florida and get driven, but rarely, and usually by relatives or housekeepers, etc. The doctor does have a 69 Camaro and 71 Hemi Cuda but only he is allowed to get behind the wheel.
