Low windshield washer fluid warning light

Has anyone ever had a problem with their low windshield washer light not coming on. This happened to me 2 days ago where I completely ran out of washer fluid with no warning light. I had an extra gallon in the trunk, but the warning would have been nice.
I did some searching, but no luck with any info on this. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I thought those warnings only lit up if you had a Canadian spec model, that's the only thing I could think would be the solution

My 2006 Owner's Manual describes the light this way:

Low windshield washer fluid level warning
light*1 (for vehicles sold in Canada)

Wow! My last post came up multiple times. Looks like you guys are right. I checked my manual too. That does'nt make any sense why this would be a Canada only thing. Lots of other cars out there have low washer warning lights on both the US and Canadian models. My Maxima has one of these light and it works. This might be a possible mod that I will consider doing. Anyone who has done this mod please chime in with your 02 cents. Thanks in advance.
