What do you guys feel is a fair price for lower ball joint replacement? 1997 SR5, two wheel drive.

One of mine just shit out of me. Luckily I was stopped.

The parts are $78 each on CamelbackToyota.com, as far as installation costs, I don't know.

I would recommend replacing them both (if you hadn't thought of that already)

Whatever the dealer charges. I just got drilled when I asked about some aftermarket stuff..LOL! I would also recommending changing both if possible. Good thing you were stopped.

Thanks for the suggestion kernel.panik. Unfortunately I don't have time to wait. It's my daily driver and I've got work M-F.

From what I've read, people don't recommend anything but OEM Toyota ball joints. Are the aftermarkets really THAT bad?

I have to ask how many miles do you have on the rig? That has to be the first, maybe second, LBJ failure on a 2wd I have seen posted.

If it is a DD, then just let the dealer do their work and call it a day.

Yes, OEM and nothing else. Aftermarket luck with LBJs can be hit or miss.

If I still lived in tulsa I would do it for free.....but I dont. Sorry. So easy to do u could knock it out in less than 2 hours after work. Anyhow OEM all day any day on LBJs.

Thanks for the offer TheKorstjens.

I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty but I'm limited on tools. I don't even own a set of jack stands (yet, they're being shipped). I'm afraid the stealership is going to get my cash on this one. Not to mention, I've never done any suspension work myself so I would be a little lost.

Where is the truck? Are u gonna have to have it towed no matter what? There is a good little shop I used to deal with around 51st and mingo. It has been years so that is close at best...it was called performance something I think. Maybe give them a call. Good honest group of guys back when I was dealing with them. He was always trying to SC my tacoma..lol

I'm actually north of Tulsa in Bartlesville. I just put Tulsa in my profile since most people have no idea where Bartlesville is lol... I did have to get it towed to a local shop that I've had look at Acura in the past.

The tow truck driver dropped it on a car dolly so they could move it around without damaging anything else. I'm just going to have to call them in the morning and tell them I'll be picking up OEM parts from the dealership otherwise they will likely use aftermarket crap.

I'm not familiar with the place in Tulsa you're talking about but then again I'm not completely familiar with the area either. As for the Tacoma, my coworker is always talking about how he wants to put a SC on his lol.. It had me wondering though if it was possible to drop the 4runner 4.0 in a Tacoma to get the VVTI, then SC it.

Well good luck with it. Hope u get a fair deal. Camelbak is a great supplier of OEM and I bet u could get them to overnight them to u and still save a bunch of cashola. Let us know the outcome. Oh yea....anything is possible.

Thanks for the suggestion on Camelback. I will give them a call in the morning because you're probably right, at $150 a piece I can likely get them cheaper even with expedited shipping.

I just got charged 1.5 hours at my local mechanic to change out 1 lbj including removing 1 broken lbj bolt. I brought in my own lbj I got from camelback, which I think was $86.

It cost me about $110 for one side.

Anyone know of a online retailer that's close to the eastern shore? I have to do my LBJs too. I'd like to have the parts by this weekend since it will be a 3 day weekend.

Thanks for the cost reference gmv4k. That's a pretty good price from Camelback. I'm looking forward to the call tomorrow. Hopefully shipping won't kill the deal because I will likely need it here by Monday. I might be able to make do until Tuesday. I also hope the shop won't freak out if I try and bring in my own parts. They seem like a pretty good group of guys though so I doubt they will.

midatlantictoyotaparts.com is located in Virginia I think. I've bought a few things from them and they came promptly and accurately.
