I would. you get more room to work around and it is easy to remove bumper.

If you scroll down to post #10 someone suggested a screwdriver which I found to be helpful for me. Note: The grill comes off going IN towards the engine bay.

Thank you! that`s exactly what I was looking for. seems to be PITA to do it without taking bumper cover off. I`ll try tomorrow.
I installed lights by just popping out the lower grill and drilled holes with a small handheld drill and tapped the aluminum bumper. I didn't remove the bumper.

You right, lower grill pops out without taking bumper cover off.I just finished flood lights install, I have a few pictures taken from start to finish,
will post as soon as I upload them.
Electrical part is not done yet but it`s easy.

I started by removing 10mm bolt from the top of the lover grill as described in this tutorial step 8 http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/84880-how-guide-grillcraft-upper-lower-grill.html

I used rivet nuts, aluminum bumper is very thinI won`t trust treads cut directly in it. rivet nuts sold at harbor freight as a kit for $16. I used 1/4" aluminum rivets to prevent corrosion.

Lights mounted and tested. very sturdy mounts, no worries here.

I went with flood lights, I think spot would be better.
Together with low beam hids.

Over all I spent 3 hours on research, preparation and install, leds were temporary connected to 12v 7ah battery, will install switch as soon as it delivered.

Sold by tuff led lights, available in flood (like mine) and 30degree spot.
Quality is outstanding,cast aluminum body, hardened glass, water constant current 27W each, 1550 lumen and deliver that much for sure.
Also available in round. 4" body.
I just bought a second set of spot beam, will try in the middle, maybe will get rid of the grill insert altogether, I usually prefer round light, this time went with square because size is about perfect for lover grill opening.
Will stop at the dealer tomorrow to get a switch.

there also 4mm treads in the back for more flexible mounting options. I1ll stick with factory brackets for now, it`s adjustable.

Tubes bought on ebay from NY seller, I can 18watt each 1850 lumen output, I love it! I can find ebay id if you interested. Year ago I paid $25 each and prices were going down.
My whole house lit up with LEDS, every single bulb but oven is LED,
I counted if I turn them all on, combine power consumption would be less then 150W.
this thing normally has 6 50W halogens in it. 6 6W Philips led bulbs lit uproom nicely and also dimmable.
behind tv lights is Ikea tube set.

Do it, leds last for many years and energy not going to be cheaper any time soon. I`m converting my house to off grid solar soon.

Great idea on the threaded inserts for the lights! They look good in there.
One thought- you may want to put some anti-sieze on the threads for the light mounts where they thread into the insert.
Aluminum + stainless steel will suffer from galvanic corrosion when subjected to salt spray. Then you'll be cursing yourself when you have to drill that bolt out!
Just a suggestion- I really like the setup and those lights look like a great deal!
