LS1+3RD Gen.

Back in Feb was helping a friend put a LS1/4L80E 450 hp in his CJ7. Naturally Runner swap came up, it's doable with a lot of work, looked as the big issue is the cross member and steering rack. The 2UZ from what I've seen is a better choice by far.

Is it? The LS1 would be more compact due to DOHC vs pushrods. Also makes more power. It won't be Lexus smooth, but I guess it was smooth enough for 50 Cent's Escalade back in 2003.

I’ve seen it done in a 2nd gen 4Runner I believe it was a 94 or 95. I’d really consider doing it but it’s a ways down the road. I’ve already got one engine swap going right now in my jeep and then I’m doing the axles on it too.

True with compact and power.
I was just eyeballing the LS swap into runner no measurements. Concern on engine was lower end and cross member/rack clearence. LS is compact enough to raise it up closer to hood for low end clearence but it looked like you would encounter issues with trans and tunnel, engine and trans and Xfer is a long sob.
Haven't looked at Dirtyfingers build did look at differnet build just seemed easier was out of Tundra. If you could adapt LS to yota trans would be a winner all the way, adapter may be out there.
On the other hand if your looking for more power why not just build a 500 Hp 3RZ like AllPro

If there was an adapter to the stock trans / transfer case that would be rad.

Does seem like it’s a lot of work/time which turns into money. The parts are affordable which makes it seem like it’s easy and that’s where I’d run into issues.

Back last century in the 70's dude I worked with had a 350 SB in a Cruiser mated to Yota manual trans, Adapter has a good chance of being out there for LS

Bringing back some memories of a '75 FJ40 with a 350, and a '72 with a 289. So much fun...

Fo sure, think it was a late 40's jeep pickup flat fender, bobbed the bed, spring over axle, a 283 on 36-38" super swampers, swampers were the tire back in the day.

That's an H series transmission you're thinking of though. I'm pretty sure there's adapters for the LS engines to the R150F(Australia has definitely mastered this conversion), but I doubt there's much for the A340F.

Knew was different series manny didn't know which.
I imagine your spot on about A340F since I've heard bits n pieces of issues with power being put to them.

Are you guys specifically wanting to keep the auto? there's a few ls to R150 bell housing adapters.

I mean, they put the 2UZ behind it. The auto 2JZ-GTE Supra used an A340E. Endless examples of supercharger and turbo setups in front of them. Is it the best transmission to use behind an LS? Probably not. Do I think it can do it? Quite possibly. I'd still feel safer with a 4L80. Far more aftermarket support for much cheaper too. Ah, the pros of domestic vehicles. With that said, I do believe there are many, many variants of the A340 transmission. Why is it that valve body upgrades are recommended for a supercharged 4Runner with an A340, yet the 2JZ-GTE Supra comes with supposedly the same transmission?

Lol, yep. A lot more research for me if I ever got serious about Runner swap.
Found out last night 4L80 is coming out of CJ, issues with short drive shaft angle
Built TH350 detached Xfer going in.

Have auto in my Runner was just talking LS swap to it.

My knowledge ends there. The adapter i found had me thinking about it. Due to Texas requiring state inspection of vehicles and their views towards check engine lights i have decided against it for the time being. Sounds like a headache. I'm still dealing with a check engine light from my manual swap.

If you decide to take the plunge take photos and do a build thread!

Sounds like an awesome project. However at the END of the day, you'll only be able to LEGALLY to tow 5K lbs.
If something happens while you're towing, you be held liable and at fault bc you're over 5K lbs.

I've never been hassled over a check engine light...
