Not that you are still looking for advice, but to add to the discussion....

Honestly, Id say just install some 5.29s. With stock tires, 5.29 gears would put you roughly at the same cruising rpms as a manual trans, so it wouldnt be spinning any faster than designed (73mph is 3k rpm, which is nothing for these engines). If a 3.4 with 3.73s can reliably tow 5000 lbs, then 5.29s gets you to 7000 by simple math. Maybe add some headers and a freer-flowing exhaust for a little more pep, and an aftermarket trans cooler, and I'd say you'd be fine.



Though, as mentioned, safety would be the biggest concern. The short wheelbase would make it pretty unstable, and you would have to find some very stout (but not tall) springs and shocks at minimum. And the hitch. In any case, though, you probably could never get around the liability.
