LX 570 or RX 350

At the risk of being flamed and sent to the soccer mom thread I want to ask the opinions of T4R members on these two vehicles.
I am shopping for my wife preparing for our first child. I want dependable and safe with a good value for the price.

I've narrowed it down to a 2008 LX570 with 95k miles for $31,000. And a Certified 2014 RX350 with 50k miles for $30,000.

Thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Neither is going to let you or her down. Two things come to mind, size and gas economy.

Have your wife drive both and let her make the choice, 100%. Throw in the GX too. Just let her drive and let her make the choice. My wife has a nice GLE350. Her choice exclusively. She came from a BMW X5 5.0. The reduction in power would have killed me but she is happy happy happy.

I'm just going to leave my opinion out of this as it's her rig. Her taste. You have narrowed down to two vastly different vehicles. I think the LX will get 1/2 the fuel economy of the RX.

Our son bought a new 2015 Lexus RX350 v6 AWD - the same week the 2016's rolled into the dealer showroom floor.
- we liked the 2015 styling much better / and the 2016 model, was stretched several more inches in length
- now LX is sort of too big, coming from a former Escalade & Silverado truck owner / longer wheelbase grows tiring quick, when not necessary

My wife drives a nice 2008 RAV4 Limited v6-269HP, 4x4 - and she loves it for work & family runs, on weekend.
- how easy to park is always a consideration / in vehicle choice
- she will likely be getting our sons Lexus, in a few more years / since the v6 RAV4 was discontinued in 2013

The RX350 is basically a glorified Highlander with all the bells & whistles / it blows us away, right down to the leather mouse & 8" Navi.
- the 3.5L engines are bullet proof, and non turbo saves rebuild money (maintenance over the years)

Our son bought an 8 year old house, over the summer / IMO, a new Lexus LX570 would barely fit in some current 1 car garages.
- RX350 models from 2013-15, are truly a very nice-luxury ride / don't know if 3rd row seating, was available for soccer moms
- sharp SUV's, even down to the 19" alloy rims / with 270 fun HP

I will echo what others have said here that either vehicle will serve you well, and both are very different. My fiancee has an 09 RX350 that she bought from her dad that has been extremely reliable and is very very comfortable. We always take her car on longer road trips when we don't have to tow anything, and it is always a pleasure. I want an LX for myself next but I have always wanted one so I am a little biased there. But i wouldn't hesitate for one minute to have another RX350 in our garage someday. They're quiet, comfortable, plenty powerful, and have the Toyota reliability to go along with it. She is at 125,000 on hers now and that 3.5L is as smooth as ever.

Great to know. My DD is a 2011 T4R with over 125k, the LX is a great ride. A bit to much of a vehicle for her I think, she's digging the RX. I can't fault the ride in it, smooth, quiet, and quick enough up to speed.

My wife and I cross shopped a few SUVs and landed on the GX. The cargo capacity on the RX was not good enough and the LX was just a bit big for her. GX was the perfect size and choice. We found a 2006 GX for a great price and couldn't be happier.

My wife and I had the same dilemma between the gx and lx. We ended up leasing the gx and its been good but we have since popped out another baby and once this lease ends, we are buying a used LX. That thing is NICE...
