Mad props to you guys who drive in snow

haha, you guys are awesome if you drive in snow all winter. I've lived In Phoenix, Augusta, Gerorgia and now Central Texas. We got about an inch and half, maybe 2 last night and the whole city went into panic haha. I decided to go get some lunch (Subway, all footlongs are $5 this month!) and was turning out of my neighborhood...next thing I know, I'm skidding about 15 feet sideways on ice.

I'm 18 and consider myself a pretty competent driver (no wrecks, knock on wood) who knows what to do in emergency situations, but this is something new haha. Luckily there was only one person behind me and they saw what happened and offered to help, but I just turned back around and decided Subway wasn't worth my truck.

Mad props to you guys who brave snowy and icy roads year after year!

Hey, wait I might've seen you today! J/K, but I saw a lot of folks that "should have" ultimately made the same decision you did.

Stay safe, traction in snow and ice takes some practice.

i love driving in snow and ice. its a lot like mud on a slope. but i have had lots of practice with all and consider myself a great driver. definitely takes some time to get used to.

Yeah, it is a whole new world. You made a good choice. Driving in the snow can be done safely, but it definitely requires some experience and a good head for caution.

If you really had straight ice, then that is pretty tough no matter what especially if, like probably there, the city doesn't have gravel or salt trucks to take care of it. Or if you have studded tires, that helps too.

Did you hit anything or do damage to your runner?

I agree it does take time can be fun. as for Mud on a slope! hell yeah, but the good thing its cleaner than MUD. lol

different type of snow sure help. the north wet gets snow, but its wet and slicker than here in Montana. yeah we get snow that comes and goes on the streets, but the hwy snow different cause its dryer snow.

yeah that sounds funny, but there is a difference.

ice there isnt' much you can do. yeah studs can help or SNOW/ICE tires sure help. but really for those that dont live in the region to deal with it all the time it does seem silly to spend the $

i just bought my runner adn the tires SUCK for this time of year, and the window washer fluid FREEZES cause the truck was in TX so I had to replace the proper fluids, but milking the tires cause I can't afford new ones right now.

Agreed, I drive through snow a LOT (my road is snow covered 6 months of the year) and ice scares the crap out of me. The only thing that really helps is studs and that is still of limited use.

Snow and ice are totally different. I don't mind snow, in fact I actually like to drive in it. Ice is totally different. It's a pain in the ass.

Location location location! I've gone from Maryland to Illinois to Iowa to Colorado. All accross the midwest you get an freezing cold ice rink. Doesn't matter your driving skills there you will just slide off the road if you are in drive. Here in Colorado you can drive like a fool and get away with it. Soon as I see snow I end up driving around like a complete jackass cause I know I can and I know I can get away with it.

Most of the time in Colorado the snow driving isn't too bad, unless we get a cold snap like we've had this week when it goes below 0 deg. F. Every now and then you get a snowstorm that just sticks to the road in such a way that it turns it into an ice rink...

Here's a pretty funny video of some cars in Colorado Springs a few weeks ago that couldn't make it up a small hill, and actually slid back down the hill backwards piling into each other.

Luckily, no damage occurred. I was only going about 10 mph.

I guess icy would be more appropriate in this topic, but all the snow where I'm at was melting to ice haha.

I live in Temple, Texas and they have no idea of what salt trucks look like lol. There's a limestone quarry about 10 miles from my house and they had quarry trucks full or gravel drive around and dump it every hundred or so feet haha.

My parents grew up in Des Moines so they were having a blast and reminiscing This was only the third or fourth time I've seen snow, and the first time driving in it.

HA really, I love driving in the snow. Just a little tip don't get a subaru and drive it in the snow.....you'll want to move up north. SO MUCH fun.

Tell me about it. I was trying to leave Dallas yesterday at 4pm. My dad and I were headed home (north of KC, MO). I-35 was a freaking nightmare. We traveled less than 40 miles in 5 HOURS.

I was seriously ready to shoot myself. We got 5 times more snow at home, and our roads were 100% clear. In southern Oklahoma and north Texas.....they looked like a bobsled track. I was so dumbfounded, it was kind of surreal. How completely incapacitated an entire part of the country can become when it snows 2 inches and then the temperature stays below freezing.

Same thing here in NM, we got about 3-4 inches in the last week, now the state is actually in a State of Emergency and there are large scale gas shortages, everyone's pipes are frozen, schools have been closed all week. Accidents out the whazoo!
