Maestro MPG readout vs 4Runner MPG readout

I've had my iDatalink Maestro for about a month now, and there is a considerable difference in the MPG readout vs what I see on the 4Runner dash display. I set the fuel tank capacity at 23gal which is what supposedly is the factory spec, reset the 4Runner MPG, and cleared the iDatalink Maestro.

4Runner is showing about 14mpg vs the Maestro at 17mpg. Yes, I know I can pencil/paper track it which I likely will. But, figured i'd ask here in case there was a user error or someone else has had experience with this. Cheers.

Wish I could help you more but I don't see how either of those could be reliably accurate. I use the Fuelly app on my phone and enter the mileage and fuel amount purchased at each fill up to track fuel economy.

Going by your reported numbers I'd say the Maestro is more accurate.

For the last 2000 miles I’ve done my mileage by pen and paper and the factory readout has been accurate within 2/10 th of a mpg meaning it will read 18.7 and I do the math and it’s usually 18.5 consistently,this is in my 2021

I only have 1400 miles on mine but hand calculated each fill has been near identical to dash readout so I’m probably not going to waste my time doing it anymore.

Appreciate the replies. The dash mpg seems really low, however I did notice a drop after adding the roof rack and swapping to Wildpeak 275 6ply. I'll do it the old fashioned way and see what comes up. Thanks again.

The dash on my 2011 has always been very close any time I did a hand calculation. As long as your fuel pump and pressure regulator are working correctly, the FI system knows the RPM and injector pulse width so it will be pretty close to actual.

Mine only shows 14 if I reset it while going down hill.

the 11.7 i get on my dash is pretty accurate for me! i have so much drag on the 4runner

Be sure to reset the dash MPG readout when you fill up for they may be old data in the calculations that make the current reading seem low.

Any MPG calculation over the "pencil and paper" method is always going to be inaccurate.

The Maestro MPG readout on mine has always been high. Reads 17.5 but when done by I hand I average 15.8. Truck dash readout is saying 15.5 so definitely more accurate. I do believe the instant MPG on the Maestro is relatively accurate.

I always thought that it was reading the one from the gauge cluster, I will have to watch it and see how different it displays
