Magnetic transmission plug

Anybody know if these will fit our transmission?

I serviced my trans today and accidentally left my magnets on the bench lol. I am not pulling it back off and cleaning those gasket surfaces again over some magnets.

Is the transmission pan steel? (I’m ignorant since I have a manual) If so you could slap some power magnets on the outside and they will pull filings and keep them there just the same.

One single magnet is not enough to catch all of the metal shavings that come off. There's a reason why there's 4 magnets in the bottom of the pan.

I highly recommend dropping the pan and replacing the magnets. I also recommend using a cork gasket that you can usually pick up from the auto parts stores for around $10. It's cleaner, easier to install and does not leak. I've had mine for 4 years, and re-used it a few times in between and not a drop comes through. And I don't have to mess with the goop!

Yes, the pan is steel and the magnets are small enough you could likely push them back in the hole just not place them back in there exact locations. The magnets basically prevent the mastic paste of fine shavings from clogging the filter which will not be an issue at my 30k mike drain and fill intervals.

Was really just hoping someone knew off the top their head of the trans and engine oil pan plugs were same size and thread?

The trans drain plug is 10mm 1.5 pitch. I’m sure the engine drain plug is bigger.

I have magnafine in-line filter in the trans cooler line. It’s got a big magnet in it.

A Magnefine inline filter is a good idea for anyone because it has a big magnet inside to collect the filings also.

The trans drain plug is 10mm 1.5 pitch. I’m sure the engine drain plug is bigger.

I have mine zip tied to the power steering lines under the engine. If you run the factory skid it is protected.

Yea why does the magnet have to be on the plug? Just stick magnets all over the pan if your service involves dropping the pan anyway

My “regular service” is a drain and fill.

I ONLY dropped the pan to check the filter and magnets since I just purchased this and am unaware of the service history. I left the magnets out accidentally when cleaning the pan and noticed it when cleaning up.

The point was pan magnets are great for when fluid is sitting in the pan (vehicle parked) but not entirely necessary with good maintenance intervals. I’m not pulling the pan again over the little magnets when there are alternatives that are easier and better at this point (magnefine and drain plug magnet).

I JUST had no clue what the transmission BOLT SIZE and thread pitch was, but if you read up it was provided so I am good to go.

Harbor Freight has some really strong magnets for pretty cheap I would stick a few on the outside bottom of the pan, install a Magnefine Filter and you should be good.

They also make a rubber gasket that is reusable. I had my old tranny's pan off probably a half dozen times when I was having tranny issues. It never leaked a drop and I never had to clean up the FIPG/RTV mess ever again.

Slap some super strong magnets on the outside and install the magnefine filter on the line and call it a day.
