Magnuson Supercharged 5th Gen V6 vs. 4th Gen V8

Hello guys,

Just curious if there are any current SC 5th Gen owners that previously owned a 4th Gen V8 that could offer a comparison.

I love my 4th gen v8. Just really considering a limited 5th Gen (useable 3rd row and styling updates). Mainly want to know if I would have any regrets if I sell.

I plan to keep it mostly stock (except for a leveling kit and slightly larger tires, like my 4th Gen).

I can't answer your question, but be aware the Magnuson supercharger is not available yet for the 2020 or 2021 model years.

Interesting and good to know - I didn't realize there was a difference in the v6s on the 5th Gens.

Ha, I guess I meant "useable" for small kids. I have a 4th gen sport edition, so no 3rd row currently. The design of the 4th gen 3rd row is horrible (folds off to the side and takes up trunk space). At least the 5th gen folds away nicely.

Interesting and good to know - I didn't realize there was a difference in the v6s on the 5th Gens.

ECU differences for the 20/21/22 models mean that tunes are not available yet. The kit will fit but the tuning will not work.

The big difference is that you'll always have to use premium gas with SC. While with V8 you can use regular.

That's prob no issue if you don't go far from large cities. But if you do that is the thing to consider (that's the only thing stopping me from getting SC).

Not a huge difference in Power between the 4.7 V8 and the Dual VVTI 4.0 V6, and the Iron block V8 is much heavier.

I've had 2 Gen 4 V8s. The performance of my '13 Gen 5 was, at best, dismal compared compared to the V8's. My Magnuson SCed '19 Gen 5 would rival the V8's performance. Unfortunately, I have nothing to back that up. I would like to think that I am at least now equal to a Gen 4 V8's performance.

Anyone in Central Oregon up to an unauthorized contest of acceleration, purely for an unscientific comparison? LOL!

BTW, I wouldn't tangle with a 5.7 Tundra. Had one of them, too.

Thanks for your insight. Overall, I don't think I'm that much faster than a stock V6, but I just like the "feel" of the V8. It's nice to know that a SC sounds comparable.

my family member went down to the toyota dealership we looked at new . the V8 4 runner looks very nice .. interior seats very comfortable .. family member still owns it and it working very good.. but replaced the cat converters.no eng/transmission issues.
the V8 runner runs very nice smooth shifting .

my 2016 had my ass with a pain in it .. I had to put a cushion on the seat. the vehicle does shift with a higher engine rev and it hesitates a little... the 2016 runner is about 4700lbs and the engine has lower torque ...

I have a coworker with a v8 4runner stock size tires (31s me thinks) and he is a little bit quicker than mine...but to be fair we really did not line them up. Just a poorly timed short burst while already going 20mph. I would line them up, but me having 33s is a distinct disadvantage.
the peppiness of the v8 is more of a factor i think based on its fuel mapping and a v8 seat of the pants feel. FWIW my 06 LC100 with the 4.7 also feels much peppier than my 4r.

Given those numbers for real life comparison, the supercharger should help the 5th gen pull ahead. Maybe not immediately off the line since the v8 probably has more torque initially, but in the rpm range after that the supercharged 5th gen should be better I would think.
