Magnuson, (TRD), supercharger on sale

So whats a good estimate of the total cost to supercharge? around $5k?

As others have said, it depends on which way you want to go with your install. These engines are old regardless of your current mileage. I have chosen to take the slow but methodical approach just to minimize the risk of any failures once it's boosted. My tolerance for detonation is ZERO! I'm not willing to risk any detonation at all. To ensure that happens I want everything I need already installed.

As JayRolla has said, you can bolt on an SC without doing anything to your engine, the way they did from the factory 15 years ago with 25 miles on the engine and run perfectly fine...for a while. Your choice. For me, as tempting as it has been for more than a year now, I have way too much to lose if I choose this option.

Here's a cut n' paste from the link in my build - Full read with pics is here;

NOTE: Anything in bold is highly recommended. If it's not in bold then optional but good decision.
 • Picked up the SC locally here in Portland for $700
 • Replaced the nose cone - PN#PTR29-35042 - Cost:$228
 • Decided on the AEM F/IC-6 Controller - PN# 30-1910 Cost: $364.61 (URD is more expensive but includes pump)
 • Boomslang Harness - PN# BF12106 AEM F/IC Cost: $379 (Eliminates manually splicing the F/IC to your ECU)
 • Denso ID22 Cooler plugs - Cost: $47.95
 • Stant 170° T-Stat - PN# 14077 Cost: $11.09
 • AEM 30-4900 Wideband Failsafe Gauge - Cost: $285.00

As of Today - November 27th ( ~ aprox)
 • Full exhaust upgrade with headers - $2500
 • New Fuel Injectors - ~$480
 • Lotek A Pillar Gauge Pod ~ $55
 • AEM Boost Gauge ~ $165 (optional but fills in the hole in the Lotek pod)
 • Evo 8 Fuel Pump ~ $65 with shipping

You can do the math from my list but my guess is you're looking at another $700-$1000 in initial upgrades.

I cant help but share that your exhaust upgrade alone is basically the cost of my 4runner.

Meh, who needs bluebook anyway!? Haha.

I wasn't 100% sure I was going to get a S/C but I did want to open up the exhaust. When the exhaust manifold cracked, getting D/T headers for the 3RZ was a pretty cheap no brainer - $400 Then my stock muffler rusted into a hole - JBA Stainless Cat back was only $420. Not changing out the Cat would have been stupid - Magnaflow highflow cat - $300. So $1120.00 spread out over a year doesn't hurt the wallet that bad & will last for the life of the vehicle.

The Transgo kit is the same as the ipt upgrade, the only difference is you do the work. They both decrease shift time and increase overall line pressure and flow. If you really want to you can rebuild the whole tranny with stronger internals but its not really necessary if you do the valve body upgrade right away.

Ya, all I was saying is IPT also makes performance trannies.
