Hi guys, this is my first post. So let me introduce my self. My name is Erik and I live in NJ. Recently I purchased 97 4runner. My first car ever. It's Sr5 auto with 170k but very clean. Everything works from all power windows to ac. I have basic common knowledge about cars. Let me get to the point. My fender wells are rust free and clean. But I did some research on undercoats and bed liners. I decided to get 3M PROFESSIONAL RUBBERIZED UNDERCOAT. I washed the fenders wells with water nicely. Then cleaned them with brake cleaner and some towels. Then I used a can per fender. I got the whole fender and behind the little lip where it bends. Then I did more research and I here people say that undercoat traps moisture and all that. And it chips and what not. Then people say it's good product. Although I cleaned the fenders very well. I'm scared that this will cause rust. Even though my fenders are like new. I just want to preserve the car well as it will be daily driver. I'm curious if I used and did the right thing or should I remove the rubberized undercoat and use something else. If so what to use and how to remove the undercoat ? Or should I just not worry ? Please help thank you all.

You did the right thing by placing barier between inner fenders and elements. Frame is prone to rust because it is painted and not powder coated. Pay attention to welds on frame, rust prevent and rattle can paint touch it up if needed. Dont worry about collor matching under there just as long as it is black. Congrats on new truck. Your Toy will outlast your ownership, enjoy it.
Thank you guys. I appreciate your time. There's some rust here and there on the frame. I will look into that when I have more time. And so you guys think the rubberized undercoat will be just fine ? Also about the frame. Should I wire wheel the rust of then primer and paint ? Or rust stabilizer then paint ?

leave the rubberized coating were it is. wire brush or wheel the frames rust spots & touch up with rust converter (por-15 or something else) read up. POR-15 Black Rust Paint http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-ru...//www.eastwood.com/paints/rust-solutions.html
