Hey guys, so I have a few questions because I am not familiar with these vehicles yet and I just recently got this 95 V6 4WD.
I have no history on the vehicle all I can say is it seems pretty ragged out from the previous owner or something, dried mud caked on the undercarriage, grease buildup and the clutch needs replacing (getting that done Monday). I am fairly handy with mechanical things - BASIC, not very advanced and I prefer to do as much as I can these days myself, because I have a 1 year old and various other expenses. A few questions:
Do these 4runners come with different/two keys? The back door lock doesn't do anything and seems to either be jammed or broken. The front passenger unlocks all the doors with a left turn, but doesn't unlock the door itself or lock it for that matter with a right turn. Am I missing something or are they just broken? The Driver side does nothing with a right turn and wont turn to the left at all. I tried WD40 into the lock hole and get no results.
Besides getting the oil changed and fluids topped off on a vehicle with an unknown history, what else can I do at home to make sure it runs smooth and safe?
It accelerates pretty rough like something needs to be cleaned, could it be the injectors and is that something I could reasonably clean/maintain at home myself? I looked inside the air intake for gunk and it looked clean. It came with a K&N air filter that seems to appear pretty new.
How is seafoam and can I use that to do anything special? I was told it could be used to burn carbon buildup out of the engine, any specific way to do this and is it recommended for this vehicle?
Plugs and wires? Is it better to get the high performance stuff for a DD, or just the stock/oem type? Recommendations?
Any suggestions for a newcomer/newbie would be greatly appreciated..
