Maintenance records

So are there any members here that keep a diehard collection of all their maintenance records and receipts for their vehicles? I recently required a 98 4runner with 112k that was owned by a maintenance engineer for intercontinental airlines. All the maintenance was done by the book, oil changes every 3k, coolant and drivetrain fluids flushed every 30k, the timing belt was done at 69k. And she, yes she, kept the records of it all. I have everything including the window sticker, dealer temp license plate, and the receipts from when she ordered the truck and traded in her 1988 Suzuki 4x4 Samurai. I literally have a 2" stack of receipts..

I keep all my records in excel spreadsheets, 23 years worth on my 1990 Mitsubishi p/u. Each vehicle has a hanging file folder for paperwork/receipts with 3 folders each: parts, repairs and misc.

I've kept track of everything since I've owned my '99. I purchased my 4Runner in '07 from it's second owner. They had it for a year and had no records. I've stumbled across some stuff on line for it but everything else I've done, even marker light bulb changes, get's logged.

I have a small spiral book in the glove box with a short blurb of what was done (oil changes, rotations and even things like install of a bumper, skids, sliders, etc), the date and mileage. Receipts and all paperwork go in a binder in the garage next to a binder that holds an FSM and wiring diagram for it.

Even mods I've done, especially electrical, get a page or two. It might be notes or even a hand drawn wiring diagram but it's all there.

I do the same for my house. I got nothing with my house and after I bought it I had tons of questions with no answers. I've got a house binder with sprinkler pipe diagrams drawn on Google aerials, dates things were taken out, replaced or installed. It helps me because something might go bad while under warranty. It's nice to know when and where I bought it not to mention the receipt. Every once in awhile I'll snap before and after pictures of projects. It's only been 5.5 years of ownership but it's fun to look back on where I started. I hope to knock the socks off the folks I sell it to one day.

I keep all my stuff in a binder since I got it in 2008 I believe.. I added it up once. I think it's somewhere around 15k

All of my receipts are scanned and saved in Evernote. Also I link or save copies of any resources I used to complete the service so I will know all of the tools / equipment required for the next time.

All my receipts are in a folder that I keep in the door storage slot..... I keep all my maint records on Mytoyota.....

For my 4Runner I use toyota.com/owners. The original owner had all work done at the dealership. I've let them do several oil changes.

The Toyota site is pretty cool. It allowed me to add things not done there as well, such as when I changed the spark plugs, diff fluid etc. Or when I bought new tires at Discount Tire.

It allows to download a pdf/excel document.

And of course, I have a binder for paper copies. I think it will be good for resale for someone to be able to look it up on the Toyota website someday though.

Oh, and I keep a file for all of my house stuff too.

And a separate file for all of my camping gear.

A separate file for REI stuff (infinite returns..)

etc...

A used vehicle with a bible of records that documents the oil changes to the fluid ounce can be as big of a pile of crap as one where the owner can't remember the last time he changed his oil.

It more reflects on the midset of the owner, rather than the quality of the vehicle itself.

Don't you think that the "bible of records mindset" would more likely reflect an owner that would take care and properly maintain a vehicle than a person who can't take 5min to file a receipt?
