Major Problem Areas on 3rd Gen?

hey guys, i got a 99 limited with 109 k. i was wondering about the steering rack and the bushings that were mentioned earlier, my steering is shaking like hell at 55+ mph. i'm not sure if thats what my prob is or not. just had my tires balnced and after i got that done, its worse now than it was before i had them rotated... whats going on here ?

could be many things
Kenny that could be a lot of different things. Have the alignment checked and see what the techs opinion is of the tie rods inners and outers.
Your tires could also be out of round and it is going to take some mileage to get them rounded out properly. Be sure they are not wearing unevenly and so on.

The harmonic balancer is just another name for a crank pulley. It basically is a pulley with a rubber core beneath the metal belt grooves. It helps to dampen vibrations, smoothing engine performance and eliminating stress caused when the engine vibrations hit a certain "pitch" or "frequency".peter78 said:

Do not overlook rusty frame depending on where you are located as well as fuel system evap. issues. Just trying to get my post count up so I can start a post of my own.

There are lots of good responses here on the forum. However, from a safety concern, I've only had a couple of real issues on my '96 4Runner. The lower ball joints and undersized front rotors for the disc brakes are considered by many to be a known weak link. I ended up replacing both upper and lower ball joints in the front and did the '01 Tundra brake upgrade. It made a big difference in both handling and braking.

LBJ's are not a weak link if you follow 100k mi service life interval use only OE replacements.
Brakes, 15"-wheel brakes are lacking, 16"-wheel brakes are sufficient been rolling 85# tire/wheel for 20 yrs.
Do brake job correctly your good TBU is a nice upgrade though.
3rd Gens getting old all gona need some parts, 01-02's worst for Evap issues.
Timing belts can last longer than water pumps and other parts you change when doing belt.
Easy check of T/B by partially removing upper T/B cover.
Brakes, 15"-wheel brakes are lacking, 16"-wheel brakes are sufficient been rolling 85# tire/wheel for 20 yrs.
