Make a 5th Gen Camper

I have decided that I will be removing the rear seats of the 4runner and will be building a drawer and platform set up for camping. Here is what I'm trying to accomplish

- comfortable sleeping for one
- fast sleeping set up
- stealthy camping ability
- works with fridge
- works with slide out
- doesn't make noises!!!!!
I will be using this for my travels on off-roading expeditions as well as for business when I travel out of town. I would like for it to be somewhat removable. I'm not sure if I will keep the 4runner or end up buying a van. I would much rather keep 4runner!!!!

Does anyone have any pics or some insite on this, I'd love to see pics and hear some ideas. Here is a very rough draft from my tablet. The water would be stored on roof while sleeping

I've built a setup similar to what you describe and I've spent quite a few nights inside. The ultimate nail in the coffin to me for sleeping inside is space and the lack of it.

The drawer platform I sleep on is about 11" or equal with the wheel well on the side. With a sleeping pad, it doesn't leave a lot of moving around space, getting in and out is a real chore.

Also, like you mentioned, your water will go on the roof, but what else are you carrying? I found I got tired of pulling everything out of my 4Runner to sleep in it and then putting it all back together again the next day.

RTT solved that for me plus sleeping in a hammock before the tent.

I'd get a van if I didn't like off roading so much.

I honestly wish I had not sold my 80 series Land Cruiser and instead dumped 20k into engine rebuild, new suspension, creature comforts and this Campteq pot top.

When one of these gets prototyped for a 5th Gen, I'll be watching.

I'm with you I'd get a van. The first video I see with a hardcore off-road Astro van and I might switch!!

God I love those things but for my needs and wants I think they are too big. Plus I already have a 4runner so that helps!!!
