Make your own spacer lift?

Well a lot of people make their own body lifts with HDPE or cutting board material. How hard would it be to make your own spacers for a suspension lift? I mean paying Cornfed or the like $300 for machined aluminum is ridiculous.

Perhaps Ill make some in my Mech E lab.

Any and all input appreciated.

No reason you couldn't... I have thought about it some. These are a few things that I'd consider:
1) Properties of plastic or aluminum, correct alloy etc.
2) Design of the top-space. Some use the stock strut studs and some you use longer studs or bolts.
3) I'd measure the vehicle pre-spacer considering gas load, equpiment and "normal" load. I may use a few extra 1/1000's on the driver's side to get it closer to level. I'm talking right-to-left level not front-to-back level.

I am sure there's more to consider but that's where I started with my thought process. With the lab avail you should be able to do something pretty cool:bigok:

Yea Ill let you know, I have access to an entire machining lab with lathes, drill presses, you name it.

The only issue with the cutting board material would be cutting it as I have limited tools at home.

I have known people who did this for body lifts, but I do not know anyone who has done it for normal lifts. I think it is very possible, and if you have the access to the right tools (which it seems you do) it should not provide any problems. I would be tempted to try to get my hands on a spacer lift so you can copy their dimesions or see if anyone here can take them for you.

I wouldn't fear metal... Or pick someones brain about how the various grade of plastic hold up to heat and other envir considerations.

It was a lifetime ago but one of my college jobs was welding/installing plating tanks which were made from plastic. We dealt with 6-8 various grades of plastics. At room temperature, in a chemical free envir, they were remarkebly similar. Once pressure, temperature and chemicals got involved things changed quickly... Someone at the engineering college (or maybe you do) will have a good background in plastics.

i made mine out of scaffold tubing with ht washers welded on each end with threaded rod and nylocks to secure them in place, depends if its just a roughy or a road vehicle 2. solid as hell but.
