Manual/auto driveshaft differences

I've had some vibrations for a while in the 4Runner that I believe are driveshaft related. There are three 3rd gens at my local pick-and-pull, so I'm thinking about going and pulling one to swap in.

I have a manual transmission, and those are not the easiest to find. So my question is, so I need to pull a driveshaft from a donor that's manual as well, or are the driveshafts the same no matter what?

Manual driveshafts are longer. Not sure by how much, but someone said on here that you can run an auto one as long as you use a 1" driveshaft spacer.

Manual drive shafts are different than auto. Replace ujoints. They aren't hard.
 
I have 3.4 auto driveshafts in my 2.7 manual, measure em up and make sure you're not overextending the rear and youre good.

Yes, me too. I have a 98 SR5 rear shaft in mine. That is because the V6 Auto and 3RZ 5spd use the same shaft. Same part number even.

The V6 5spd is a part number of its own. The 3rz auto is another part number on it's own.

Of course this is only valid on the older runners. No idea what happened once different T-cases were available.
 
Know for fact that in 5vz the auto transmission is longer then the manual. So the automatic drifeshaft ks shorter then the manual. Like others have said. Could run a 1" spacer.

I'm sure you find a used driveshaft from car parts.

Learn something new everyday. I'm a part number guy, more of a try it and see if it works guy lol

Something I've considered, but I heard the issue a lot of times is the double cardan joint, which apparently can't be replaced? Either way, a driveshaft from the local junkyard is 40 bucks....

Correct. Double cardan is not serviceable. I though it was maybe your regular ujoints. What you could do is, get the used drive shaft. Bring it to a driveshaft place. Have them cut off the double cardan and weld in the better one and rebalance it.

I'm sure there's a ship that does driveshafts.

I haven't actually checked to see which joint is bad or if they both are. I just figured it'd be easier/less time consuming to pick up a used driveshaft to put in.

Right. But you have a manual. So either get a spacer for new driveshaft. Fix the issue or get the correct drive shaft
