Manual transmission won't hold what my book states

I just bought a 1995 with a 22re and 5 speed. I am in the process of changing all the fluids. My manual states a transmission capacity of 3.9L or 4.1qts. I just dropped the transmission oil and level ground with the tranny warm. I let it drip for a good 10 minutes. I bought 4 qts of 75-90 valvoline synthetic gear oil and after pumping in approx 2.5 -2.75qts I had fluid running back out the fill hole. Is the factory manual wrong? Did I miss something?

Yeah, you need to drop the pan, and even then I think there's still some in the bell housing?

I wouldn't worry about it.

If it's a manual, there is no pan or oil in the belhousing. My Owner's manual says it should hold 3.2 quarts or 3.0 litres. Sounds like you're in the ballpark and it just didn't all drain out. This isn't uncommon as the 3.2 quarts could be from a 'dry' condition, say after a complete disassembly or rebuild.

Thanks for the input. I will drive it a bit and then check the level again just to put my mid at ease
