Mats v Liners (Floor)

2017 TRD Off Road

I want something on my floors other than the original carpeting when I go to the back country etc.

The threads comparing different brands is interesting, but I'm wondering about mats vs liners, does your choice depend on your usage, what are the pros and cons of each?

My city gets around 10" of rain per year, if that is relevant.

Costco has some WeatherTech "Trim to Fit" set of four mats for $30, but I am wondering how good a fit I can get from them. Since fit seems to be a high priority among forum members.

Here is a pic if that helps. Anyone tried these ? And BTW what is a good source and price for a front set of WT? So you order straight from the WT site? I see a lot of people like WT front and Husky rear.

If you want great fit, buy the molded ones. Those "trim to fit" are cheap for a reason. The factory all-weather mats would be better than those IMO
 
I have WeatherTech fitted and molded liners front and rear. A little pricey, but the floor carpet underneath is spotless... and was mentioned above, these also come up pretty high on the drive-train / transmission hump and well over the door plate area... all the dirt, mud, sand and water stay on the liners.

Cleaning is simple, too. Just remove, shake, rinse, dry and they look like new again.
 
I have factory floor mats, they are fairly decent but based on my previous experience with WeatherTech, I would have chosen WeatherTech over the factory ones. Factory are good enough not to justify purchasing WeatherTech but would definitely pull the trigger if I didn't have any. Just don't get the trim to fit ones, just fork over the money and get the ones specifically made for a 4Runner.
 
Thanks for the input, I will def get the pre-molded ones, and might go for the liners.

Where's the best place to buy? On their website, vs Amazon, vs are they carried in autoparts or offroad stores?

The WT site has the front mats at $55, plus there's got to be some shipping involved. The front liners are $110 before shipping.

Are they discounted anywhere? Sorry just have to ask . . .

Well here is my opinion, a different approach.

I have molded rubber liners in three cars right now (Wrangler, Avalanche and MDX). Weather Tech and some made by them for our Jeep.

Pros:
- they do keep your floors slightly cleaner (dirt just gets pushed over the edges anyway)
- durable
- great fit
- hold water (kinda)
Cons:
- All of my the edges are rolled in, looks bad and lets stuff on the floor even more
- Once used for a while, they NEVER look clean. In fact the interior just looks dirty. Drives me nuts
- Water, yes they come up high on the sides but where they clip in is the problem, so water finds it way out there. Not really a rain issue, but a snow issue.

Having a sport car history I use Coco mats on those cars and love them. So out of curiosity I ordered some samples from them on their all weather mats. (cheap to do). They look woven and they are, but melted to create a solid rubber mat that is thick, easy to clean, and I think will hide dirt and wear and tear very well. Plus a pop of color is great I think to brighten up a pretty bland interior.

I always ordered mine directly. I think Cabela's used to offer them but I don't think they were any cheaper. They just put a Cabela's sticker on top of the WeatherTech logo which I think you can peel off.

I never had the rolled edge problem but I've never had them on a 4Runner. Mine were tan colored. I just used degreaser and a brush every time I cleaned them and they looked fine.
 
If you want to save a little, go husky. If you don't mind spending a little more, consider Weather Tech. If you plan to hold onto the vehicle for a little longer, you get what you pay for.

Personally I will be keeping my runner for quite some time. I went Husky and they are OK but if I was starting over, I would have gone WT.

I based my decision on cost without ever seeing either liner. Now I've seen both and would go WT. I'm OK spending a little bit more.
 
I only have the factory ones due to me getting them free from the dealer. I also don't get much dirt anywhere since mine is a garage queen. Only goes to the beach once in a while since the weathers been crap.


But I don't have much negative's about them. Seem to do the job.

I wish Husky made the X-act Fit Contour liners for the 4Runner. Those were perfect in my Tacoma. I went with the WeatherTech for my 4Runner but would swap out if Husky ever makes the X-act Contours. The WeatherTech are fine, though.
 
I did weather teach for the 4runners.
front/back / cargo
pros:
holds water
dirt is easily washed off
Children friendly : milk , snacks and drinks are easily washed off
pet friendly: the cargo liner holds all the dirt and can be sprayed off too.
 
I have had the Husky's since I purchased my 2010 new. They have held up great and I would not hesitate to buy them again. I will select the molded liners vs all weather mats every time, as my experience has always been that dirt/water gets pushed over the edges of the latter. The carpets under the mats are clean, but you end up having a ring around the bathtub effect from the weather than made it over the edges.

SnowYeti brings up a good point about the mat anchors. The early 5th gens did not have the screw type anchors for the mats but, rather had hook type fasteners that were easily removed by pulling out of the factory carpet. I ended up going with the Huskies because they did not have the holes in the liners for the anchors. No issues at all with the liners moving around due to no anchors. The high molded edges hold them in place fantastically.
 
I've noticed a lot of people buying the WTs. They look good and fit well, but are thin, mar easily, and expensive. I ended up going with the Toyota OEM mats that are also contoured to fit perfectly, nice and thick, and much cheaper. I bought mine from Amazon for $102 for a set of front and rear (GENUINE TOYOTA PT908-89160-02). I see they're now $133. I've had them installed for 18 months and I'm very happy with them.

PS - They also fit 2010 - 2013 models.

I had Huskys on my Expediton, which I just traded in to get my new SR5. I had the rolling issue with most of the edges. Made it look pretty crappy. I was hoping the WT's wouldn't do that. Decisions!!

Well my WT did roll. Front and back. Maybe some heat gun action with cold water after would help get the shape back for a while. Going to try it once summer comes.
 
I have had the the Huskys in front and back for a couple of years. Front and back have done their jobs fine with dirt and mud. Had snow on them a few times and carpet seemed to stay dry.

Fitment wise, the back ones are great, no complains. The front ones I can't get the part that goes over the door trim to lay flat for the life of me. Hot summers, heat gun, trimming the "teeth" off the bottom, folding and putting weight on it, nothing has seemed to work. They're always about 1/2" above the door trim and occasionally catch a shoe when getting in... usually it's a toe when I'm wearing flip flops lol.
