Missing slip yoke cap / plug on rear driveshaft

The cap for the rear slip yoke on my rear driveshaft is missing. As a result, when try to grease the slip joint, it just comes out the hollow end. 4wd, 3rd gen manual 4runner, it's the end by the rear dif.

Does anyone know the exact size of this cap / plug? I'm trying to source out a replacement. Also does it have a hole in it? Pic would be great.

A local driveshaft repair place says they likely have something, but they would have to pull the driveshaft and weld on the cap. I don't really know if I can trust them and don't love the idea of welding either.

Anyone had this issue and resolved it?

My slip yoke has no cap. Can you post a picture?

It does have a hollow end, but that hollow end is inside the driveshaft, which is where you want the grease anyways.

Without the cap the grease doesn't fill the cavity, so there's seemingly no way for the grease to push through the splines. As I understand it, the grease is supposed to eventually come out at the slip joint.

If I stick a rod down the hollow end of the shaft it's at least a few inches before it hits the solid end of mating splined part, so I don't see how grease could reach there without first filling the end where the grease nipple is.

Yes, as you know there is a pressed in type of cap on there. Mine leaks grease a little around the edges.

It has no hole on my 96. Appears to be just a thin press in type of end cap.

Sorry, no idea of size or sourcing. Junkyard shafts seem to be reasonably priced if you can find a good one.

I looked on a parts schematic in the FSM and it looks like that plug or cap is part of the Sleeve Yoke and not a separate part you can buy unless you find one at a wrecking yard.

Here's a link to Camelback Toyota for a replacement Slip Yoke. Btw, the FSM calls it a "Sleeve Yoke" not a "Slip Yoke".

Unless you can find one at a junkyard, you might be better off just buying another one because I gather the shop that suggested the welding will charge you just as much or more for their work. Camelback sells it for $128.

And, there is no hole on this cap. It is a solid piece.
 
I noticed mine started to press out a little the other day. Any way to press it back in without removing the driveshaft maybe?

Not sure if 4th gens used the same part, but the one you linked to is for a 2005 truck.
