I've only had the truck for about 6000k's but I change the oil every 3k's. Replaced what I had in there yesterday with Mobil 1 syn. Do you know how long I can go before another oil change with syn? I've read somewhere between 5 and 7.5k's.

I'd go by a time interval too if you don't put that many miles a year on your truck. I go 8000-9000 between changes (also with a M1 filter) and if I drove it less I'd at least change it once a year.

Im going to vote for Castrol Syntec 0W30....better VOA and UOAs than any Mobil1 product. easy enough to run 10K+ miles with a mid interval oil filter change. Im currently 7000miles into my current 0W30 run.

Should I get the regular Mobil 1 or the labeled Mobil 1 Truck and SUV formula (both in 5W30)? WalMart sells both for the same price. The Truck/SUV grade is suppose to contain "extra antioxidants"

I've used both (right now it's the truck formula) with no noticeable diffs from the driver's seat. I'm sure both are pretty much the same and I still change mine at 7-8k miles with a Puralator PureOne filter.

I'm sure Amsoil is a great oil too but I don't understand why you can't buy it everywhere. Availablity is nice with M1 no matter where I'm at.

I've also used both the regular M1 synthetic as well as the "truck and SUV". It seems like it would be the same, and just a marketing ploy, but the price is identical...

Also, to agree with RonMAIDEN on page 1, I've stuck with the Purolator PureOne filter and they have been good to me. Of course, I've also used the M1 extended performance with a 5000 mile interval, and they've been equally as good. Used oil under both filters at 5k seems to be about the same color and consistency.

FYI for those Canadians using Mobil 1.
Check the CTC (Canadian Tire) flyer in your area. They have a good sale in Ontario this week on the 4.4L jug plus a bonus 1L for C$30.99 +tax (5w30 or 10w30.) This is usually over 50 bucks.

I've done the following:

In my '90 4Runner 3.0L, I used dino Pennzoil and Fram filters at 3,000-4,000 mile change frequencies. I towed a 3,000 lb trailer frequently. At 205,000 miles I sold the car to a friend and it used no oil. Last I heard he had 375,000 miles on it and was having no problems.

In my '00 4Runner 3.4L, I use Mobil1 and Fram filters at 8,000-10,000 mile change frequencies. I tow a 2,000 lb trailer. I have over 151,000 miles on this car and it does not use oil.

In my '07 Mustang GT 4.6L, I use Amsoil oil and filters at 8,000-10,000 mile change frequencies. The car has over 27,000 miles with no issues (but give it time, it's a Ford).

In my '08 4Runner 4.0L, I just did my first oil change at 1250 miles with Mobil1 oil and filter and will be changing it at 8,000-10,000 mile frequencies.

I've had 5 other cars (mostly Toyotas) that I've used synthetic oil in with 8,000-10,000 mile oil change frequencies and have gone beyond 200,000 miles and only had one that used oil; a whoping 1/2 quart every 8,000 miles.

Say what you will but my experience speaks for itself. I'm comfortable at these oil change frequencies.

All of those will protect well although I've heard some negative things about RP. I use Amsoil in my Mustang only because I can. I'd be perfectly comfortable running Mobil1 in it like I use in my 4Runners. Personally, Mobil1 and Pennzoil Platinum are probably 2 of the best bang-for-the-buck oils IMO.
