Model building

When I was a kid I enjoyed building plastic car models. I think I kept Revell and Monogram in business.
As I got older and started working on real cars I got more detailed in the details, to the point that I was making wiring harness and brake lines. Entered a few in contests and won a few prizes.
Many decades later my Wife asked me to build a model for her Captain. A Prius patrol car.
Finished it today.

the talent and attention to detail required to build something like that can never be fully appreciated unless you've done something similar

I'm putting together a GTR Skyline R34 myself. It's my first model kit since I was a kid, and my first one with the plastic cement. I bought it since it had a blue body, but it's an unfinished blue plastic, so I'm going to have to paint it anyway. I'll have to pick up some paint this week. Here's where I'm at so far.

I used to buy 3-4 models to make one. Wheels from this one, seats from another, etc. Used the 'trees' the parts are attached to to make toll cages.
Roommate and I (1980's) made a diorama of the staging area of Firebird Intl Raceway to display our newest creations. Cotton made good-looking smoke.
A lighter made for realistic looking dents on stock cars.
