MOLLE cargo rack

I've had this idea for a while now, and finally got around to installing it.
The rack was originally custom made for the trunk lid of a Dodge Charger.
Since I was issued a different car, it's been sitting in the garage for the last year. I didn't have room on my Crown Vic trunk lid.

Its made out of 3/16" aluminum plate cut out on a water jet.

And now for the pics...

Used 5/16" hardware. I gotta find a cap to cover the exposed threads.

I can still walk under it without ducking. The lift and tires helped.

Finished Product. Took about 45 minutes start to finish.

Very interesting.
I wouldn't mount my FAK on it though. If you get hit hard from behind and need to access it R.F.N., you may not be able to get to it quickly.

I'm wanting to do the rear side windows, since I really can't see out of them anyhow. That would be a great project. I would love to have a water jet, but damn those things are pricey.

I've been considering doing this for the 4Runners, I just have been wrestling with some design issues with the way I want to approach it.

As for your back door unit, I like the idea; it's perfect for lighter objects as I wouldn't want to put too much weight on the door itself (the hinges/shocks would most likely not like a ton of extra weight.)

I like. Do you have the specs for it by chance? Width, Height, size and spacing of the holes? Would save me some work if you did. i wonder how much this would cost to get cut somewhere.

Rough guess by eyeballing...

I'd say the holes are as follows; 2" wide, 1" Tall, with a .5" radius for the corners. The holes are spaced about 1" from each other horizontally and vertically in a grid fashion.

As for height & width of the entire piece he's using; its roughly 16" high by 46" wide.

Not my ideal pattern for strong MOLLE retention, but it works I suppose.

That's pretty close BW, and it's not the ideal pattern. The holes need to be reworked, I think closer together and the material we used is too thick. This was a R & D project I had with hopes to market it someday. Then I saw a company already doing the same thing. I can't remember their name, but they had a nice product, although it is pricey.

This panel is really to small for the 4Runner, but it looks cool and it's different. It fit perfect on the Charger.
