So... i have read just about every thing there is to read on this site. and with no luck finding the same problem i have. I bought new cv axel (complete) from auto zone. (told they are oem just re-built). I have the clip facing up i re-greased them and i have hit it into place with a crowbar and a sledge. The problem i have is there is a gap between the diff and the cv axel its self. the passenger side has no gap what so ever. Any idea what could be causing this? Thank you in advance. its a 1996 limited 4x4

will do. ill have to wait till tomorrow since im at work for the night. I only said the clip because in one of the write ups it said he had better luck if the opening of the clip was pointed up

It could be that the dust shield wasn't in exactly the right position on the shaft to leave no gap between it and the diff when the axle is fully seated. I saw that with new axles from Napa. If you feel certain that the axle is fully seated you may need to move the dust shield a bit to get it where you want it.

As already stated above, either not seated fully its just a dust cover issue. I've never had issues with my CVs on the 4Runner but when I did the CVs on my Forester, I had to swap the dust covers from the old to the new ones.

How big is this "gap"?

Make sure you attempt to rotate the shaft a bit while tapping. I'm sure you have, just thought I'd get the obvious out of the way.

CV axles should be a 15 min trail fix dude. Next time you buy a new one, keep the old as a spare.

I'd seriously advise just returning that thing to AZ and get the $100 ones from NAPA. I am a huge fan of Duralast parts and AZ, but I've been running the NAPA axles for over 2years on 35 inch tires and haven't broke either one yet. If it doesn't work, move on.

Does this really need two threads?
Looking at the CV's in the other thread :/ your cvs look fine. Mine has a little gap as well.
