More headroom

Being a taller fellow, I have a bit of an issue with my head nailing the roof whenever I hit a speedbump. I also have to recline the chair back quite a bit to make it manageable and it looks like i'm trying to be "gangsta".

Anyone have experience with modifying seat mounts or any other ideas?

I've moved my seat an extra inch or two back to give me extra leg room. I think the seat is a bit lower, too.

I've found a couple pieces of flat metal a couple of inches long, with holes drilled at each end. One hole on each is bolted using the factory seat anchors, and the seat bolts into the other end. The pieces of metal act like little "bridges" or extenders between the bolt hole locations. Make sense?

It helps comfort a lot (I'm 6-4), but it's not very safe. The rear seat bolts aren't be used at all (so the rear of the seat sits lower). Hope I don't crash or roll it...

Yeah i'm about 6'4 myself, I would guess that in an accident the seat doesn't play as much of a role as the seat belt.

Bump for any more ideas.

Back when I started driving my dad had the 4 runner taken to an auto body shop to get the guide rails extended about 3-4 inches by welding on two tabs to the front of the rail. The shop was a bit iffy about doing such a risky mod. I have horrible knees and I needed to have the seat extended so I could drive( I've had 2 total reconstructive surgeries with regrown cartilage) . My knees need to be at least 140 degrees or almost straight out to drive comfortably. The seat was extended leg room wise to accommodate up to a person 6'9'', yet I'm 6'1". The tabs are completely safe and have been working for at least 7 years now without any flaws. I could post a pic of them when I get a chance.

One thing that might help, on the side of the seat you can turn the wheel to drop the seat bottom down and can give you about an extra 2 inches of head room.

I just modified mine to raise the seat about an inch (not that I'm that short but needed to mount a safe box under it and the motors on the Limited's power seats hang too low). The problem is the front inboard mounting bracket is pretty much flat since it sits on the tunnel. I doubt you can lower the front of the seat without modifying the transmission tunnel, which would not be a good idea.

The inboard mounting bracket on the back attaches to the tunnel and you can't get much out of it. If you make a new mounting bracket to attach to the floor (both sides in the back) you might get an inch out of it.

This is the only picture I have that kinda shows the extension, its what I got for now until I can get a close up.
there's a tab welded to the end of the track and then to the original leg and then a diagonal strut to help with stability.
