Mormon Emigrant Trail begins at Sly Park Dam and ends at Highway 88 near Silver Lake.
"Originally named Iron Mountain Road, it was renamed in the 1980s to commemorate the journey of the 47 men and one woman of the former Mormon Battalion. They bivouacked in a place they named Pleasant Valley in 1848 after working for Capt. John Sutter and also gold mining. In July they followed this route, crossing West Pass at an elevation of 9,550 feet and then crossing Carson Pass into what they named Hope Valley and then onto Salt Lake via the California Trail. On Highway 88 look for Tragedy Springs, where their scouting party was killed by Indians or robbers."
This was a good trip, which I showed up late to. Better late than never!
All the folks who attended were super nice people and it couldn't have been a better vibe among us!
