Motor Swap – WILL IT FIT

Hypothetically, if your motor died and you wanted to throw some cash at the thing, what motor would you swap it and why?

I would be interested in an LS swap. No idea if it would fit, but I’d love to see that in a 4Runner. Why, parts are plentiful, easy to find someone for engine management and tune, and I have some factory GM connections.

Not sure why you would go with a GM V8 when Toyota already makes a V8 that not only fits but runs better, built better, lives longer, parts are plentiful and is already an option for this vehicle. Just my 2cents

Because the LS platform is a superior engine to the UZ series.

OP, if a 2UZ fits, a LS will fit.

This exercise wasn’t about logical decision making… it’s about day dreaming at work.

A jet turbine engine..

But, in all seriousness, another 2uz. But that's very unlikely to be needed. It is and will continue to be one of the best v8 engines to ever be built, it will go down in history books.

If the newer Toyota 5.7 mounted to the stock transmission, or the engine & transmission mounts lined up, then I'd go with that.

If not and I had to do all the fab work, then I'd just go with a ford 302. I like low end torque.

im just finishing up an EFI 331 swap in my 2nd gen truck. previously had a carb'd 302 in it.

Lexus IS-F V8 would seem appropriate... no idea how easy that'll work. I thought somebody did that swap in a Tacoma though.

I would go with an LS swap. Really a great engine series and tons of aftermarket support. If the toyota engines/ecm aftermarket support was out there, I'd swap in a 5.7/6-speed auto. That combo makes me smile in my Tundra.

:lookout:

I love these threads too much.

The reasonable choice is a 2UR-FE, probably with the landcruiser full time drivetrain.

Get them nice fancy features like the semi-auto shift system and all that.

And could supercharge for +500hp.

But all this reasonability is silly:

I'll second the 1GZ-FE. Put some individual throttle bodies on it so it screams bloody murder to redline.

YES!
