Motul transmission fluid conflicts

96 5 speed sr5

Recently I had my tranny fluid changed and had motul full synthetic 75-90 put in. Since then, it is extremely hard to shift into 2nd gear when the transmission is cold. It simply does not get past the gate going into second gear, unless i pull really hard, which obviously i don't do.

Are there any known conflicts with motul gear oil and our manual transmissions? Once the transmission warms up, it slides in fine. This just occurs when it's cold. The truck has never done this before, and it's had multiple transmission oil changes. Thanks for your help

The synthetic oil is too slippery and it is interfering with your syncros. It is not letting the gear stop spinning to engage. Need to change to a different oil.

Sheesh, that stuff is a bit pricey. I think it is better to use cheaper stuff, and change it more frequently, than to use high quality stuff and not change it as often.

Unless of course money isn't an issue and you change the nice stuff frequently. In that case, te salud.

thanks for the replies, guys. I will put in regular toyota spec gear oil tomorrow and update this thread for information's sake.

Also something weird that i've noticed since the motul was put in - and bear with me while I try to explain this - when the tranny is cold and the vehicle is moving slowly (5 mph in first gear, lets say), when I let the clutch out but keep the car in gear (shift stick is still in 1st gear), the car will slow down to a stop, even when pointed down a slight incline. It almost feels like the handbrake is pulled up slightly. This dissapears after a couple minutes of driving (presumable when the gearbox has warmed up some). It's also somewhat reluctant to pull OUT of gear when it is cold.

I guess I'll update when the toyota oil is in.
