Observe that there are different thread pitches for M10 bolts. Almost all M10 bolts on your 4Runner as it came from the factory are M10 x 1.25. (If there are exceptions to the 1.25 pitch, I'm unaware of where they are but I'm open to correction.)
The problem with purchasing M10 bolts at a hardware store or Lowes or Home Depot, and even many online places is that they'll probably only have M10 x 1.50 pitch available.
If you're going to such a store for both the nut and the bolt, you'll be OK. However, if you're buying a bolt to thread into a Toyota piece, which is to say the female threads are on the Toyota part, then you've got a problem.
By the way, a similar problem occurs with M12, only here there are 3 pitches: 1.25 (what you'll find on your Toyota) and 1.5 and 1.75 (which is what you'll find in the hardware department).
In M6 and M8, what you'll find on a Toyota matches what the hardware store sells, 1.0 and 1.25 pitch respectively.
