Multi-Terrain Select & Slip Indicator Lights On

I had my TE aligned after having new Total Chaos beefy cam gussets and tabs installed - after leaving the alignment shop my Multi-Terrain Select light is flashing and will not engage (says "cancelled") and the Slip Indicator light is solid.

I'm guessing the shop left something unplugged.

I'm having some more suspension work done at a 4x4 shop done tomorrow, so I'll have him take a look. After the work, I'll be heading back to the alignment shop and they said they can resolve it as they caused it.

Anything I can do before then?

I think some people on here have had the same issue when an ABS wire is left unplugged or is damaged.

I saw that post but I believe he also had the ABS light on as well. Is that always the case?

Can't give you a definitive answer on that- however, I do know that any issue the computer detects lights up seemingly unrelated indicator lights on the dash. At least, that's what feedback on this forum would suggest.

OK - I'll see if I can see any disconnected to obviously damaged wiring. Thanks for your help!

Well, except they are related. All of the systems involved need to know whether or not a given wheel is turning.

OP: yep, something got pinched, ripped, or grounded.

Those are just generic idiot lights and might or might not have anything to do with what is actually wrong. I threw the same lights for a bad o2 sensor which has nothing to do with any of those systems and others have had the same lights for unrelated problems.

You need to find out what the DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Code)that is stored in the computer and is obtained from the OBDII port and go from there.Most auto parts stores or shops will read the DTC for you or you can buy a reader for less then $20 but I would highly suggest you buy a little better one that can clear the code also. I have a Scangauge II .

But as said,number one problem is a bad ABS wire from being stretched during suspension work. You can't visually see it because the wire is inside a protective sheath.If I remember right the DTC is 0265 for ABS electrical fault and a bad wire.

Alignment shop spent 4 hours on this (lights came on after they had it on the alignment rack). They weren't able to figure it out.

Made an appointment with Toyota on Monday. Hopefully they'll handle it under warranty.

So did they pull the fault codes? If you don't have those yet, go by your local autozone and have them pull the ODBII codes. This should be free and will give you a real idea as to what is going on. Although it sounds like abs is the issue since it came on after the alignment. Kinda surprised they gave you the truck back like that if they knew about the issue.

I had my 4x4 shop pull the codes and there wasn't anything except a TPMS error which he fixed. The alignment shop gave me some BS cause along the lines of "ECU unable to detect multi-terrain select system" but could provide no codes or evidence. I didn't argue with them. I just asked the manager how they would be reimbursing me for any charges from toyota. He said to bring the invoice by if they charge me and he would take care of it. (I doubt he will)

It's all fixed, though I'm not sure what causes this.

Threw codes: C120A, C1210 and C1240

"Yaw rate and steering angle out of zero point calibration. Cleared codes and performed zero point calibration for yaw rate and acceleration sensor then performed steering angle sensor zero point then performed down hill assist calibration and crawl control calibration in that order to turn all warning lights off. Test drove vehicle up to 65mph to verify repair."

$0 - covered as warranty repair

He wasn't sure what would cause all of that to be out of calibration, which is unfortunate. He also said only the dealer can calibrate most of that stuff.

I've had the exact same problem. However, I have a different DTC code C1258 which from the manual is 'Open Circuit in Transfer 4WD Position Switch Circuit'. This came up after a hard few days going around Moab. My truck has a 3 inch lift...so have been checking for stretched or broken wires...nothing so far though.

Any ideas?

Well I've given up trying to find the problem. I'll take it down to Toyota in the week and see if they can find it.

hi wanted to find out how you solved the multi terrain and slip warning light issue have a similar case from changing the interior light bulbs to led which is locked near the multi-terrain knob.

Gonna bring up an old thread here. I ripped my ABS wire and replaced it with a new one. At the time, ABS was solid, traction control light and 4wd light was blinking.

Now, my VSC light is solid and the multi terrain select light is flashing. ABS light is no longer on.
4wd engages in 4hi and lo, but MTS and crawl control still do not work.
