I've had her now for about 6 months and I have just fallen in love haha. She came through the dealership and had only 85,000 original miles on her and I couldn't pass it up. Local buyer drove it to the grocery store and back for 15 years... And now she's mine. Before I took any pictures of it stock, well, before I even drove it off the lot, I had them put on a 3 inch lift with Bilstein shocks, and 265.70.17 Toyo MT's on some XD series Addicts. Pulled the running boards and a couple months later I did the deckplate mod. She's a 3rz 5speed so a little under powered right now after the lift and tires but getting some pricing now on regearing and I have some plans for the future. Loving the community on here and glad to be apart.

what's the deck plate mod? She's very pretty! And how are your CV boots doing? I bought a 3rd gen that hadn't been in 4x4 for 16 years and after the lift the boots cracked immediately after being offroad.
 
Thanks brother! The Deckplate mod is taking the stock airbox out and cutting a hole to put a 4inch (that's what size I did) marine deckplate. Once sealed you can unscrew the lid of the deckplate and now have a hole about 4 inches big right behind the passenger side headlight. Do some research on here about it! Many people find it to be better than doing a CAI. The CV boots are doing fine. I have a diff drop up front so I haven't had any issues :thumb3: [MENTION=137808]dirt__diggler[/MENTION]

Awesome! thanks. But I have COI (previous owner) so guess this isn't top priority for me. Seems like a smart mod though. Glad to hear you aren't having any CV issues. They are very easy to replace though - did both last weekend and it took about 3 hours - first one was over two hours as I got everything dialed and the second one took about 45 minutes. Not hard.

Wow, thats not bad at all. How much did it cost you??
 
You are going to love it. I had my 3rd generation (1998) for 19 years until my wife recently totaled this week. Thank god my wife is fine. I had no problems over all that time besides normal wear and tear. Amazing. Sad to see the 1998 go, but Im exited about getting a new one.
 
Been thinking about buying a 3rz '96 4runner, only thing holding me back is the power. What kind of hp increase did you see with deckplate?

Clean looking truck, will be cool to see what else you do.

Hey thanks !! I'm excited about the next steps to come for sure!! Not exactly sure what the exact gain in HP was but I could tell a difference. Nothing major but I believe there was improvement. The 3rz really just needs to be regeared.. You do that and you'll be fine. Or if you don't wanna go that route then just do the deckplate mod, lce headers, exhaust, afe drop in filter.. And you should get some noticeable difference there. I love this truck but I am planning to regear because I want to get the most out of this motor stock then go forward with all the other upgrades available. A lot of people who have the 3rz love this rig.. I think you would too.

Wow that's awesome how long you had that thing.. I'm loving it man. Glad to hear she's ok though.. That's scary stuff. Have fun with your next buy[emoji4]
