My 4runner saved my life......

2011 4Runner, SR5, Leather, Sunroof, Third Row, 155K trouble free miles. Changed oil, brakes, one wheel bearing and plugs, nothing else the entire time I owned it, since new.

Head on collision coming off the highway on an exit ramp from a wrong way alleged impaired driver operating under the influence.

Airbags went off. Injured a bit.

Was going to buy a Tundra Platinum but could not bring myself to getting 13 MPG. Loved the truck but my pocketbook won out. I drive about 22K miles per year.

Wanted to get a Tacoma TRD Sport, as I had one before and when I got rid of it I took over the SR5 from my wife but the current new and used TRD Sport double cab long bed are too dear for my pocket book.

Ended up with a 2015 Limited with 49K miles and Toyota Certified.

In any event, the 4Runner did it s job and owed me nothing.

I was exiting the highway, reducing my speed on the straight exit ramp, noticed headlights up ahead and realized they were coming straight for me. I lowered my speed and about the time I was hit, my speed was down below 10-15mph, other driver was increasing his speed (I suspect) as he was about to get on the highway (albeit n the wrong direction). 4Runner took the brunt of the collision since my speed was down, other driver had a new BMW X5. His front end smashed to bits. Overall speed was less than 45 total I would suspect but don't know.

The safety aspect of it was one of the top 3 reasons I got the 4runner. I know it may not be the safest thing out there, but it was pretty darn good with the criteria of a car I was looking for.

Surviving a head on collision at speeds over 60mph is unlikely, regardless of how safe a vehicle is. So, by hitting them at the off-ramp, you potentially saved someone else's life too.

Sorry about your 4Runner and I hope your injury is quickly surmounted. You can drive 100% correctly, but sometimes a collision is out of your control. It sounds like this was one of those occasions.

I suspect we're all glad to read that Toyota's safety engineering successfully mitigated the effects of the collision. That quality certainly figured into my purchase decision.

2015 Limited? I suspect you will continue to be pleased.

They had that one in Oregon or somewhere recently? Five people killed I think in that 5th gen. Head on, looked like it rolled and caught fire, not sure of details.

I had a 2010 that was bulletproof. I ordered a 2018 Limited and it's been great--only problem is the rear seat keeps coming apart. They're great trucks! Glad you're safe, it makes me feel my decision to get another one was right.

Being a career FF/Medic I’ve seen my share of accidents and Toyota/Lexus have always faired well in accidents. So have BMWs so you guys were evenly matched but I’m so glad you managed to make it out okay.

I’m planning on keeping my flawless ‘10 as long as I can but there are ALWAYS morons out there trying to kill you and your truck. God forbid my truck meets an untimely demise, I’ll definitely be landing back into a Runner.

Same here! I was in an accident earlier this week where a car pulled out in front of someone (speeding of course) and was hit and knocked into my lane as it was air bound and I hit it head on. I could definitely be wrong but I swear for a moment it seemed as if the car was going to flip towards me and Roll over on top of me, but when I hit it It ended up flipping the other direction. My entire front end was smashed-my good was in my windshield, and I was able to crawl out the passenger side without a single injury.
Unfortunately they are still trying to determine if it is totaled or not, but either way I am getting my third 4Runner after this because looking at the pictures has made me so thankful for my 4-runner!!
Question-was yours totaled? I saw where you got a new one so just curious. I feel like I had a lot of damage but at this point adjuster saying probably not totaled and it is on its way to be broken down for further damage assessment.
