My Storage Shelf Build
I decided that i was tired of the various things in my truck constantly floating around in the back and not having a place to be stored. this is my storage shelf build.
total cost of the build was about $70. took me about half a day to put it all together once supplies were gathered and i started cutting.
items needed:
4x8 5/8th in particle board
2x4 8'
1x4 3'
2 41qt tubs
marine carpet
carpet tape
staple gun
hinges
handle
2 1/2'' to 3'' wood screws

first had to cut the particle board to the proper dimensions and round the edges, this includes the fender well curves. those were a pain.

next the supports for underneath the board. i built it with 7'' of room for the tubs i had

next i attached the supports and checked it for fit, make sure that everything fits well so that changes could be made if needed.

once everything fits as needed, its onto the carpet tape and installation of carpet. i used carpet tape in conjunction with a staple gun to ensure that the carpet wouldnt come undone

after the carpet is installed its on to another fit test to make sure nothing has changed. once that's done, add in a few hinges, a handle, and a door and your done

and of coarse, the tubs. even enough room to keep my spare alternator just incase

yeah, the hinges are my least favorite of the whole project but i plan on replacin
them eventually when i find ones i like

Looks great! I have had enough of my big rolling toolbox in back..Maybe time for something like this... I think if a piano hinge would do great on that, then leave a little extra carpet overhang so you cant even see it..

thanks man, it was a pretty easy project, most of the stuff i already had which made it easy to get started. its great though cause now all my stuff is tucked away nicely and have room for more stuff that i'd to have but didnt want it back there rolling around

How did you get the carpet so tight with no folds or anything near the bends?

That was a little tricky. I laid down several strips of carpet tape to ensure that the carpet did not move. The edges were stapled down with a staple gun and the corners too. The corners I had to cut grooves in to all for overlap so that it would all lay down flat and could be stapled.

Thanks! This was a fairly cheap addition but by far one of my more favorite. It allows me to keep all the stuff that I like to keep in my truck without having a huge cluttered mess.
