Mystery bolt? The biggest one on our 4 runners.

Folks, just finishing up an engine /trans R&R on a 99 . Can anyone identify this big mongo bolt, which is totally escaping my memory as to where the heck it came from?

I've been going thru the FSM trying to remember , no dice. THNX in advance to anyone who recognizes it!

( prolly goes with the shift rod i am now missing - DOH! )

Oh NO! It is truly a mystery bolt, eh? Big sob to be missing form anything. with 4.8 and ZX on the head i have to think its off the Yota.

Does it have any stamps on the head of the bolt. Most Toyota bolts have a proprietary grading system, so you can get an idea of what it's for from how strong it is.

I don't recognize that bolt at all.. Looks almost like a alternator top pivot bolt bolt or a large carriage bolt for a mower wheel. Are we even sure its a Toyota bolt ? I don't have any 3rz Fe around either.. My brother has one. I haven't seen it before.

Not sure where the bolt would go, but I can see that it's a "shoulder bolt", meaning that it tightens completely and something "pivots" on the non-threaded portion, which could help trying to figure out what it's for.

It looks like the bolt the alternator rotates on? The one on the bottom. It usually has a washer between the nut and the alternator mount. Usually on the back.

Pyral, the pic i snapped of the head didnt come thru. 4.8 ZX stamped on the head. I threw it in my Toyo bolt tray. So ASSUMED it came from the 4 runner.

I havent noticed any obvious place where it ought go, and i have HOURS on my back under that rig.

Many people avoid this, but if it is a Toyota part, the parts guy at your dealership may be able to locate it with dimensions and thread specs. Maybe stop by with the bolt so he can look at it.

only 2 ideas I got is from motor mount where the frame side connects to engine side. or is it by any chance a bolt used when it was on the cherry picker and not part of truck?

dimensions might help (what size head, length thread size?)

Motor mounts, naw, they're all brand new with new 8.8 bolts.

Who knows? I have this mystery bolt, and what i cannot find is the steel dowel used to secure the gas tank strap.

thennen, our local Toyota dealership has made is truly hard to deal with the parts department on a retail basis.

At our shop, similar types of bolts are the main pivots for a hitch-mounted bike rack.

It could be the power steering assembly bolt.

That doesn't look like a Toyota bolt.

Jeeps use a bolt like this as a brake and clutch pedal pivot, though the one here
is obviously longer.

So far no bolts are missing! Engine stand is a good guess as i had the "taco toyota" on a stand for almost a year and then broke it down.
