Navigation map update (mini SD) without dealership?

Has anyone figured out a way to update the nav maps on 5th gens with the SD nav maps without spending $200+ every year at the dealership? Are the eBay SD cards legit? (If so, is there a new part number for each map rev?) Torrent? Copying from a newer 4Runner?

There have been several threads on here over the years but as far as I can tell they have all fizzled out without resolution.

Please refrain from suggestions of using a smartphone / aftermarket GPS. I do have an iPhone app with offline maps but I find using the 4Runner's built-in nav incredibly convenient.

Hmm, it didn't occur to me that this topic might be forbidden. I don't recall ever agreeing to a EULA. But you're right, copying the map data is probably a violation of some copyright law.

Surely buying parts on eBay is legal, though, right?

So all of these Techstream post are for legit products?

Has anyone figured out how to upload a forest services map so it can be viewed on the Nav Screen? Is it even possible?

I'm reading that it takes an SD card to update the map, could a person download the info to a normal SD card & then up load it? What kind of application would it be?

Any Techies out there who would know?

As to how I interpret the OP’s question, I give my experience.

I bought my ‘18 SR5 used in July ‘19. It has the Entune system with navigation. The SD card was not included and the navigation system did not work nor did the direction indicator in the small info screen in the gauge cluster. I checked the dealer, I didn’t want pay the dealer price of $169. So I checked online and found a brand new 2018 edition SD card offered by an Arizona Toyota dealer. It came very well packaged and my navigation system and compass in the info screen started working upon plugging it in. I paid $69.
