Need a new rear 3rd

I have been pricing out their front fully assembled clamshell and rear fully assembled third because I'm looking at going to 456 gears. Is that your suggestion to get a fully assembled one?

I just got a phone number tomorrow and find out what the cost is to ship my other diffs back to them. I'm in Canada so I'm going to get burnt bad on the dollar and cross-border shipping although I'm only three hours from the border and can go across the border and send it from there

I'd like to swap to an 8.2 inch but don't think I can do it without swapping the whole rear housing and axles

That fricken sucks. Not sure if this is any help, but I'll be passing through Kamloops on the 15th from Edmonton. Just thinking if you happen to source anything here, I could drop it off to you.

If you want to go 8.2 you will have to get new axle shafts. I forget who, but there is a kit to convert. Really it's not worth it. Get the solid spacers and you won't have an issue unless you go really big. Plus you have the 5 year warranty for the "oh shit" moments. lol
If you are regearing and you have more than 50k miles then they will tell you to replace the bearings and everything too. After a master install kit front and rear, gears, labor if someone else does it and the time it is cheaper to just buy a complete unit, plus the 5 year warranty as mentioned, which I couldn't find any local shops offering ANY warranty! It's expensive, but I'd definitely go with complete front and rear difs with new gears and solid spacers.

I just dropped in a new 3rd from ECGS last weekend. I am about 160 miles into the break-in period and there is a noticeable whine on deceleration after it gets warmed up.

I don't say that as a reason not to deal with them. They're good guys and have promised to build me a new one after the break-in period if I'm not happy. I'm not excited about having to do the same job twice, but I like companies that stand behind their products.

While ECGS has built up a good reputation. You need to ship the core coast to coast across the border and then back again for the rebuilt. You still need to pull them out yourself or have someone do it. I find the whole thing expensive, plus you are dealing with US $.

I've had 2 3rd's and 1 clamshell rebuilt locally while doing ARB installs locally. If I bring the 3rds to my installer it's 200$ for the setup. Otherwise I'd pay the time to remove it and put it back in.

There is nothing special about the Toyota 3rds. Probably a transmission place can do it. Or ask a mechanic you've dealt with where he sends his diffs to be redone. Maybe if there is a muscle car shop that you know of. Or even a custom Jeep shop.

Exactly this. Any reputable drive line shop can get this job done properly.

I think a lot of make-specific enthusiasts, like us Toyota guys, like to think our vehicles are somehow special or insanely unique. They're not. We do not have rare unicorn vehicles that require special mechanics to work on. They share many of the same mechanical properties as any other vehicle.

Cost to pull and rebuild my third with new ring and pinion and bearings and install is quoted at $1100 at the main/only off-road shop in town. Complete 3rd from the wreckers is $700.

I'm running 34's and have been considering regearing so I ordered complete front diff with 4.56 gears and complete rear with 4.56 gears with solid pinion spacers and driver side cv bushing and 5yr warranty from ECGS.

I live 2 hours from the border. They are shipped here for free. I pay $50 each diff to ship back.

The re/re isn't too difficult to do myself. So I'm regeared for $1350 US with a 5yr warranty but I do install. Beats the $2900cdn w labour I was quoted to regear.
