Greetings All,

I did Doc2012's CS144 Upgrade about a year ago. No issues in the beginning, everything was great. Just as doc did, I used the same reman'd advance auto alternator. Like an IDIOT, I core'd my oem to save a buck. I read on here somewhere once that somewhere a baby dies every time one of us stupidly turns in a working denso for a reman'd auto parts store crap. 20 : 20

Anyhoot, the reman'd is giving up the ghost after 7,000 miles. It's only putting out between 12.1-12.6 volts at idle. Came home from 10 days abroad and the truck was dead as a ghost. Turns out...this is a surprisingly common issue on this board with auto parts store reman'd alts. Sometimes I think I have selective searching, and reading here on the boards.

So what would be some good options going forward? I don't have a dual battery setup, nor will I ever need one in my plans for this rig. I just want enough solid power to run some small accessories and toys, and not have my headlights dim at a stop light.

NOTE: This is in NO way meant to be condescending to Doc2012 and his write-up. This is in every way shape and form meant to be condescending to cheap reman'd parts.

Sorry about your luck with the auto store alternator. When I did the conversion, I purchased a new AC Delco model off Amazon for about $130 shipped. since you've already done the conversion, maybe the, "missing link" is to purchase a new one.

I appreciate the advice, but I don't deserve the apology. A LOT of folks on this exact board have had the exact same issues with auto store reman'd alternators. I should have known that possibility with as much as it's been discussed.

Lesson: keep your core's. for everything.

Come up to Jacksonville and get one from me.

We'll get you taken care of.

The GM conversion is out dated and the quality is bad. There are companies rebuilding Denso's with high output amps that are direct fit. No spacers or adapter harness needed.

Quality Power has these in stock & ships same day if you order early enough.
I bought the 160amp for the 2.7L.

Since you have it all setup go and get the GM OEM. They are actually pretty good and will last 100k miles. Most likely wont get 270+ miles like mine is getting but it will be a lot better than the auto parts one.

In the past I went with high end alt rebuilds and had them still fail.

Usually the only decent remanufactured alts, starters are those done by the original maker. Otherwise you could get a good one that last for years or just days.

Nothing beats OEM. My Motorcraft Alt on my Bronco was 25 years old and still going strong when I sold it in March.
