Whazzz’ s up guys and dolls...... its been crazy busy OTJ and I rarely find time to breath.
Shorten story is a friend of mine borrowed the 4Runner and let the battery die, I think when jumped they reversed the cables and fired the ECM. My buddies family budget is not in a position to replace the part, nor would I asked them to, it was an honest mistake.
I need to pick your collective minds, has anyone had to replace their ecm, if so where did you get it.
The obvious choices being the dealership & salvage yard come to mind. Yet, I’ve also read that services where available to have the unit bench tested and refurbished.
I searched and found an outfit called ECM Outlet. They appear to test and repair the units, however their reviews are not good. Has anyone use this type of service?
The salvage yard route is a flip of a coin additionally a 97 3.4L 5sp w/ e-locker combo is rare.
Checking with Toyota, a new ECM is costly even with my son’s discount. However, I may end up going that route due to “ it’s for a badass 3rd Gen 4Runner” lol.
Any hoot, any suggestion or considerations would be greatly appreciated.
