I bet the underside is pretty rusty. If you can get pics, do it. Otherwise, if you really want it, just make an offer. Start at $4500 or so, and see if they'll meet in the middle. If not, you're not out anything, and you probably saved yourself some work/time. If they come down quickly, they may not be telling you the whole story, and are just looking to unload it. A 14-year old vehicle with over 100K miles is rarely "mint".
