Need gift ideas

So I need some ideas for gifts for a niece like figure, she's turning 6 soon. She likes all the normal things cute 6 year old girls like. Disney is a big plus, but I'd be hesitant to go that route because she's probably already got it.

Here's the catch, I want it to be something meaningful. I remember getting a re-occurring gift from my grandpa every year for Christmas, starting at a young age. I looked forward to that gift every year. Every year around the holidays Hess gas stations sold toy trucks. Super badass toy trucks. Fire trucks. Semi trucks. Cargo trucks with helicopters, dirt bikes. Complete with working lights and horns and sirens and cool shit. Each year the truck had a theme, and came with other associated toys and gadgets. Some of you may know exactly what I'm talking about. Props to you if you do. I looked forward to the new truck every year.

Point being, I want to start a trend, she's at a great age. I want to get her something meaningful, that can change, and that she can come to expect. I want her to know each year she can expect something cool, that coincides with years past.

Ladies love jewelry. My wife still has stuff her parents and grand parents gave to her as a kid. And they aren't expensive pieces or high cost/quality stones, but good enough it still looks OK when cleaned up. And even though most of it she never wears any more (and hasn't for years), she won't get rid of it and knows who gave it and when she got it.

Our niece got shoes for several years - sometimes twice a year (birthday and Christmas). My wife worked for an athletic footwear retailer at the time, and her sister was a single mom. The higher end shoes were a real treat, and we got them at a good price.

Closest I recall to what you describe were toy NAPA trucks. My uncle had a store in our small town, and he'd stock those around Christmas. I had a few of them (and eventually "crashed" them all! lol)

I have two nephews and what I've been doing with them every Christmas is instead of buying them something, we go to the mall where they have a giving tree. They pick out a couple of kids who are around their same age and then we go get them some gifts. Usually a few more than is on the card. It's kind of cool. At first they really didn't like it and weren't into it, but we've been doing it for enough years now that they really get into looking for stuff that they think the other kid will like.

Maybe whatever you do, you could make it something like that? You could take her to find something she likes and buy two of them and then find a place to donate or place to give it to another young girl.

This is the basic version of this toy. There are many expansion packs. My kids got these at about age 6 and have kept them. My 18 year old was just reminiscing about them a few days ago. My daughter loved them, loved Disney and American girl dolls but also loved these and Lego kits.

Snap-Circuits is a good idea. You'd need to do it together which is my idea. You can build some cool stuff. We gave my grandson a number of kits over the years. It's fun when you build stuff like an alarm they can use when folks enter their room, etc. Our favorite was building a radio. My sneaky goal was to get him interested in HAM radio with this as a start.
