So I just bought my first 4runner! Coming from a 93 3.0 Toyota sr5 4x4 pick up. I got a 97 4runner with E locker 259k Mileage 4x4. I was blown away with this motor did a compression test when I picked up the truck because I was nervous due to high mileage but everything was 170-175 across the board. But there are some minor issues I am trying to get addressed.

The timing belt, and pulleys have all been replace about 10k miles ago. However I dont believe water pump has been replace. Is this a part that fails often or around 250k mark? I beat on the truck before I bought it after I let it idel to opt temp and it never went above?

I will be doing a total fluid flush and change. Trany, Front, rear end oil change, and coolant flush and change. short of that is there anything else for 250k mileage mark I should be doing?

AC didnt work.
So far I got a new denso compressor, pressure valve thing that goes on the evap coolor, and the tube thingy that does overflow stuff? all things recommend from another post I've trolled on this site. Getting everything cleared out and refilled end of this week so cross your fingers.

All of the dash lights dont work. I am assuming its the DOME fuse? From research I have trolled on here thats what Ill be checking tomorrow.

I need suggestions for head lights. I am going to have to look whats in the car but the left head light is dimmer and pointed lower down than the right side which is brighter and pointed straight. Other than making the lights match how do I go about correcting this issue?

The CD player and clock both are not working. The clock is working I suppose but the light behind it is very dim. Tomorrow I will be checking the fuse behind the deck it is a aftermarket single din. Is there other known issues beside it taking a dump?

The door do not auto lock. Im worried about this one as in my research/trolling the forums before being able to post my own post it looked like this issue was common and costly. From what I found it is the whole fuse relay thingy on the inside under the drivers side correct? I got a replacement at a Truck pull yard. They showed a 98 sr5 4x4 front end damage whos doors unlocked and locked and then pulled that unit. The guy there seemed to know that was the issue. I got that unit for 30 bucks? Is that the right unit?

The drivers side door handle is broken. AGAIN from what ive read its a easy replacement. However I was wondering if anyone has used the cheap ebay ones? Its like 6 bucks for both handles on one side. Otherwise I have to find one online thats OEM.

Other than that I will do a 3 inch lift. Either the Tunder/FJ lift mix thing. or the OME 3 inch lift.

Other than that will be plasti dippin the whole truck OD green. As I am prior Army and dig the look of my buddies STI OD flat green.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed!

Thanks in advance.

I have soooooooo many gun and gun parts stickers to throw on this Truck once done :gun5::gun5::gun5:

Go to yard for the door handle and enjoy your truck. Safe travels.
Ps. We have a new member thread for just this

Hey, how much did you pay for your 97 4Runner?
I just bought a 96 T4R Limited 225k miles, with the rear E Locker and absolutely love it!!!

Also the water pump should always be replaced at the same time as the timing belt. If the previous owner didn't replace it well then he must have shit for brains!

I sure hope your electrical issues is just a fuse. That's a lot of things not to work right. I would just buy a ton of micro-fuses and replace every one inside of the dash to be sure, they are sometimes hard to see if they have blown.

The dash lights being out may not be a fuse, the bulbs themselves might be shot. Easy to replace, just open up the dash and order a handful from the dealer or replace with LEDs.

Welcome to a Toyota as they should have been. The 3.0L is a nightmare of an engine, for Toyota standards.
